I hope that the schedule makers for 2021 give us the first game at Austin. If not, at least the first game in their new stadium. It would be so cool to forever be able to say that we were the first team in MLS to beat the snot out of them.
I wonder what their contingency plan is for playing games upon stadium delay. They will likely be front-loaded with away games to start the season but is there any backup?
Dennis, they are EXPERTS in soccer AND construction. There will be ZERO delays. That's an Andy Two Buttons Take it to the Bank Guarantee.
Does anyone else find it completely amusing that in less than 2 yrs from the time it was announced McFratass was going to try to move team, we will be putting shovels in the ground for a stadium he couldn't get built? Dong Arber should simply look at that fact and send Mr. Quesoinjected Threechins to the f'ing curb. Then he should turn to Captain Run & Tug in New England and tell him get a stadium or sell. Then NYFC. If people are competent enough and want something bad enough, they will make it happen. Especially if they got $BBBBBillions in the piggy bank.
Garber wanted us moved as much as anyone. Our groundbreaking is his failure as much as anyone else's.
From my understanding, Mark Abbott doesn't deserve to be booed. Garber deserves to be tarred and feathered if he steps foot in the state.
I don’t hate anyone unless given reason. Abbott worked to keep the team here if my sources are correct.
Abbott != MLS, as far as I'm aware. You spend a lot of time up on your cross, and then go and invent stuff that people didn't say and then attribute that to them? I mean, seriously...stanger didn't say boo about MLS.
There are a lot of posters on these boards (not specifically referring to the two quoted above) who are pretty solid in their hatred for MLS suits. I think it's fairly obvious that MLS fans are outnumbered in these parts by non-MLS fans. I was being mostly-earnest in my first statement about booing whichever MLS suit blesses us with their presence. But you're right, Abbott is not the enemy. I've heard the same rumors, that Abbott was the MLS rep who most wanted to keep a franchise in Columbus. So, if it's Mark Abbott, I'll hold my tongue. As far as inventing things, I think that maybe I just see things a bit differently than you, Timon. Diversity of opinion should be valued, no?
Well, you literally made up something that stanger didn't say and attributed it to him, so, if you want to claim "diversity of opinion", know that your opinion is factually wrong.
I didn't make it up. I wasn't aware that the posters on these boards separate Mark Abbott from MLS in their MLS hatred and therefor logical jump was an easy one to make and you'll have to forgive me my trespasses. I'll go crawl back in my hole now, sir. Enjoy your evening. @stanger - I'd like to put a beer in your hand at the last match, if you'll be around.
One of these things is an individual, another is an institution. I'll let you guess which is which. stanger is but one poster on these boards. Hey, there's another "individual vs. group" thing! Easy, yes. Premature, also yes.
In LaMacchia’s defense, there are those of us who still have a visceral, negative feelz for mL$. I would loudly boo Dong Arber if he came to town, but there’s not a chance in hell that he comes here for a public groundbreaking. He has to have a some sense of the disdain many Crew fans have for him. IIRC we have Mark Abbott to thank for the dialogue that led us to where we are today. He should not be booed but cheered. Even so, I doubt he comes to the groundbreaking. Seems more like a community thing (Dee, Dr. Pete, Ginther, etc.)
I'd bet MLS sends a representative to our groundbreaking. They don't happen that often. Did they send someone to Austin for theirs?
I’ll be at the top of the Nordecke if you want to put a face with a name and I would always welcome a beer, but the beer isn’t necessary.
Pretty pretty please let them send that pencil neck dweeb Dan Courtemanche. Got a hankering to share a few words with him face to face. Come to think of it it's been a week or two since I last told him how utterly awful he is at his job. Think I'll go remind him right now.
