I don't really have any more personal animosity towards the ordinary decent soccer fans who happen to live in Austin, Texas, than I have towards the ordinary decent NFL fans who happen to live in Baltimore, Maryland. They got a local team to root for through the (corrupt) workings of the American sports league business model, and didn't really have a lot of power or choice in the matter. Please make note of what I have not said about the owners, senior front office personnel, and obnoxious trolls who are associated with Austin or Baltimore.
To be fair. No one seems to be posting in there anyway. It must be lonely being a supporter for a team that does not exist.

I mean, I've doubted local support for this enterprise for a long time, but the amount of nothingness related to media coverage of this supposed huge moment in Austin pro sports history is far worse than I would have thought possible. There was a single op-ed about in yesterday's paper down there, but even that was kinda tongue-in-cheek, lukewarm.
A random DC United fan is posting a bunch of links and photos in the Austin expansion thread. It just gets more bizarre. Whatever, I have to go get some groceries.
I'm not going to play their stream and add to the count, but i did see some twitter videos from their new handle.... they are tens of people there! Looks like they spent under $1 each on those tiny see-through flags.
Until last season, FCD had been starting home matches at 8 PM for a few years and everybody LOVED it, since the sun had gone down enough that you'd be watching matches on warm evenings without the sun beating down on you. It was even better than the 7:30 kickoffs they used to have. Then last season, for no apparent reason, they moved home kickoffs to 7 PM. Everyone suspect that it's for TV, but I don't know why TXA 21 (an independent station, but owned by CBS) would prefer 7-9 PM on Saturday nights over 8-10. But yes, that does make a difference.
Well, this should be the high water mark for this new franchise for quite a while. Not saying they won't get it done in the end. We'll see. Only that they won't kick off for at least two years, so it'll be pretty easy to ignore them and focus on what really matters.
