Will there be any players that would qualify for a homegrown status if they spent time with the U23s and haven't signed a professional contract yet before OC makes the jump to MLS? I don't even know if there are any such players but thought there might be some snags with the changing of leagues.
One guy I'd love to see is Andrew Brody from U of Louisville. He played with the U-23s this summer but I believe that RSL still has first dibbs. Call it a hunch, but I think OC will try to negotiate for him if the MLS does not allow him to sign with OC as a homegrown.
My guess is the negotiation will probably have to be with RSL. Aren't Redding and Turner considered homegrowns already?
Yes, how many are allowed? One thing I wonder about negotiation with RSL is how much the MLS might get involved to encourage Central Florida players to end up in Orlando even if they spent time somewhere else. I've also heard some Zusi rumors but I think that is more likely wishful thinking, at least until he gets towards the end of his career.
There is no limit per year on homegrowns. There is no limit to the number of Homegrown Players a club may sign in a given year. http://pressbox.mlssoccer.com/content/roster-rules-and-regulations Do you think OCSC can claim Zusi as a homegrown? I'm sure he is happy with his DP contract in Kansas.
OC would love to bring Zusi home, but that would require a bunch of talent to pry him away. Yeah but you can only sign two per year at a higher rate than other young players, or something strange like that. I really don't understand it.
