That was a total BS call. Soccer needs to correct this BS of having games decided by some either very questionable or ticky-tacky calls in the box. You can't do it. It's nonsense. That should not have been a PK.
I don’t really get why the VAR team got her to check that? It’s a soft one but there is contact so how can she overturn it?
75' 1-1 ... penalty confirmed 76' 1-2 Rapinoe pk, right instep pull into back left low, under Paños's right hand as she guessed right but couldn't get there. Same penalty taker, same result! 🇺🇸@mPinoe showing nerves of steel from the penalty spot! 💪 #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/2aLSSc0VJy— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 24, 2019
What a shame to lose on a such a marginal foul . Spain so organized and disciplined usa probably won't score a goal off the run of play.
Intention is nowhere in the Laws of the game, either is “getting the ball” if you play in a reckless or dangerous manner that endangers another player it’s a yellow or red card.
Not all contact equates to a foul though. I feel the two US players only went down after over running the ball with a heavy first touch.
One of those ones where there's contact, but not enough to take the attacker down. Then the attacker realises there's been contact and belatedly falls down. It is a penalty, just a bit cynical.
It is a PK any day of the week in my book. You do not need to hack a player to commit a foul. If a light touch is enough to hinder a player it is an unfair advantage to the other team thus, a foul.
Longest Penalty Kick in history? And why the taker was changed from Morgan to Rapinoe in-between VAR-check? Morgan wasn't completely ok and thought it wasn't worth risking a World Cup for a Golden Boot?
