53' 2-0 Cameroon subs in (1 of 3) #21 Alexandra Takounda for #17 Gaelle Enganamouit. 53' 2-0 Takounda receives ahead of Bright and Houghton through arc top to spot, left instep shot kick-saved by Bardsley. Cameroon poke ball around through 12m, can't settle and turn, England finally clear.
I would agree, overall. But not on this call. This was clearly a ball the keeper needed to play with her feet.
56' 2-0 Ejangue plays a right backheel over endline left, goes down with right thigh pain. Stoppage, she limps off, Cameroon defend with 10. 58' 3-0 Duggan left ck, ground pass to 10m 1/3 left. Greenwood arrives from box top, left instep volley past Ngo Ndom's left hand into back right low, with Ngo Ndom still moving (her) right. 3-0! England are ruthless at the other end and add to their lead just minutes after Cameroon believed they cut it in half. #FIFAWWC pic.twitter.com/Y4wOo2D9cy— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 23, 2019
MOD NOTE: @footyfan933 and @EDonEnta - knock it off. This is the ONLY warning. If you continue, thread bans to follow, possibly forum bans. Duration TBD
And I thought Greenwood would on the bench for the remainder of the WC(before she scored), but then Bright had a terrible game every single time, yet back again in the lineup!
I am a proponent of VAR but I think they might need to reevaluate how they use it. Do they really need to use it on an offside that was a centimeter at most? They would have scored if she was even a foot behind there.
Listen, if that's not an intentional back-pass, then no-one is and just scratch the rule from the rulebook, because there won't ever be a clearest example of its application. I am ok with protesting questionable calls, but if you start questioning everything on principle, that's victimism. And I am sorry, I don't like at all this kind of cheap victimism
I agree that the keeper should've played it safe. But the referee displayed poor judgment to make that call. It wasn't clear.
Same happened to England men against Holland in the Nations League. Benefit of the doubt should go to the attacker but with VAR everything is literal. It’s not what VAR was supposed to be about.
Organization has let a CAF team down again. Sporadic, do it yourself, uncoordinated attacking and defending. Sorry simply not good enough. In the next WC (men and women) we will see the same story again. I am out. Going to go enjoy my brunch and wait for the Argentina - Qatar Copa America game.
