Greenwood for Stokes; Kirby for Stanway; Parris for Daly.

Identical, but Feudjio RB => DM, and Abam RM <=> RW Nchout.

04' 0-0 Parris pokes past Leuko at 15m right touch and chases, Leuko moves to interpose body, then throws right elbow backward into Parris's chin/throat. Foul, yellow card on Leuko.

04' 0-0 England fk at 14m right touch, Duggan dummies over, White crosses to 12m right post, headed away.

That elbow should've been a red card.

So far Cameroon have done well to close England out.

Once again Neville misses the boat, by not starting Daly & Mead

10' 0-0 Tricky chest-high bounce straight up at England's 10m 1/3 left, Bright heads it down almost off Houghton's shoes, Houghton clears.

13' 0-0 Duggan counters to arc top mid-right, pass down box right for White chasing to 0.5m. Backpass to 4m left post, Ejangue taps it back to Ngo Ndom -- who picks it up. Foul, handled backpass, indirect free kick at 6m!

    What the heck ...

14' 0-0 England ifk at 6m left post, Cameroon's line are on their goalline. There are gaps :whistling:

14' 1-0 Duggan rolls ball live, Houghton blasts right instep past a sea of legs coming out not fast enough, beats Aboudi Onguene holding right post, just behind right post low hard. That's ... at the same time, easier and more difficult than a pk.

I wonder if 2nd post in the group couldn't reveal a blessing in disguise for Japan. England are tough enough to deal with Cameroon even should they choose the over-physical way. Japan could have had more problems with them. :coffee:

For a moment I wondered how on earth Cameroon wasn't starting Nchout: it appears the FIFA website and the FOX captions prefer the form Ajara Njoya for her.

Back-pass bites Cameroon in the ass and Houghton scores.

    1-0 England.

At this level, players are assumed to know all the rules and the ref are well trained, not biased but sometimes it's not the case...

Cameroon needs to calm down and get organized. They seem all over the place.

After reviewing, I completely agree: this looked as deliberate as it gets! :devilish: If Cameroon keep playing this way they're not going to finish this match in 11.

By the way: hi, @W.A.S.P.! I wasn't seeing you on these boards since... WWC 2015, I'd say? :)

Lots of old friends showing up again, these days! :giggle:

Do undirect FKs in the box always use to be defended this way? Or was it because it was particularly close to the goal line?

Anyway, You can't say that Cameroon's supporters on the standings lost their enthousiasm so far: you basically can't hear anything but their chants!

21' 1-0 Kirby passes up centerline slightly behind White at 18m center. White reaches back for ball, backpass to Kirby, one-touch pass to Duggan unmarked at 15m mid-left. Duggan shoots a quick mini-lob, high over right 90.

23' 1-0 Aboudi Onguene lands poorly at circle back left, stays down hurt. Stoppage.

24' 1-0 Aboudi Onguene limps off with trainers, returns.

I guess the Law for free kick walls is: 10 yards or to the nearest boundary of the field, whichever is closer. Since the only boundary that matters is the goalline, that means you can set up on your own goalline if the kick is < 10 yards.

Then having all 11 players between your goalposts is probably optimal, and still isn't enough.

Third place teams that make it to round of 16 won't survive, except Brazil
