I thought we could use an academy/homegrown thread. -News articles related to the academy -Tracking RB players in the NCAA -Academy national team call ups -Speculation/discussion on future home-grown players -Future? Training complex? Residency? Satellite academy? NYRBs in College
GK Keith Cardona (8/06/2010)http://www.northjersey.com/sports/h...must__save___his_best_attempt_for_later_.html
http://rise.espn.go.com/boys-soccer/articles/2010/08/21-News-and-Notes.aspx Nice to see top players in the area leave their clubs to join NYRB. The article mentions 2 players that left PDA but the number is closer to 4+ (based off SUM Cup lineups). FYI Christian Johnson left Cosmos "East" to join NYRB.
John Tardy, a SR, is still at St. John's as well. Never sure if he's eligable because he had an appearance with the US U-18's, but he's been in the Academy for ever and played this year with the RedBull NPSL (U-23) team. Should be our first Academy crop to graduate from college. Nunzio Belfiore - MIA. Was a GK for St. John's last yr. Rutgers (last yr. Roster not updated this yr yet) - Andrew Cuevas (Jr.), Sam Archer (Jr.), David McVane (Jr.) Seton Hall - Andrew Welker (Sr.) - F who played with RB-U23 Jack Freeman (So.) - D who played with RB-U23 Hayden Morris (red shirt Jr.) - D who played with RB-U23 Adriano Gabriele (So.) - M who played with RB-U23 Sam Petrone (Sr.) Steven Rose (Sr.) I'm iffy on the last 2 but they were mentioned in last yr's Academy Update Syracuse - Mark Brode (So.) - M who played with RB-U23 Did not dress for their season opener. By no means a complete list. I know we have some at Monmouth, I just don't check them.
The rule was about poaching players from Bradenton residency so I dont see a problem w/ u18 call up. I don't think any RB-u23 player that did not play in our academy would be eligible. MLS would think of this as a way around the draft. I know I did not have everyone on my list was. It was more of the top prospects we have in the NCAA. Any idea on the whereabouts on GK-Sheldon Parkinson? He played for our academy and was recently on our U23's.
Great idea for a thread, I always find it tough to find this kind of info. Does anyone have any video clips of our more promising young players?
I agree; was putting it there more as this was where we last saw him/last played. Pretty sure Brode, for example, played with RB U16 and U18. Kassel seems to be taking most set pieces for Maryland. He converted a PK and assisted on a FK in a 4-3 OT loss to Mich. State. Maryland seems to be having trouble posting the box scores so i can't tell who else played. Maryland won big 5-0 against Northeastern on Sunday. He scored on a FK at 30 mins in and assisted on Herricks 61' goal.
St. John's beat Virginia tech 2-0 on Friday. Lade (full 90) and Hines (last 11') had late game shots wide of the net. Tardy was in for 29 mins. No. 2 Virginia Tops No. 17 St. John's, 5-0 Sunday. Not much good here. Lade played the full game, Tardy got 62', Hines on for just 14.
2011 College recruits list. There's about a half dozen RB Academy freshmen in that list. Bryan Gallego, Christian Johnson and Sean Davis to name a few.

Maryland soccer blanks George Mason thanks in part to Matt Kassel http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/21/AR2010092106595.html
2 Academy players selected for U.S. Soccer Residency Program http://www.ussoccer.com/News/U-17-M...-Semester-of-US-Soccer-Residency-Program.aspx
i guess maybe we can assume he'll be offered a contract and bypass the draft. Especially with the roster limit being rumored to be upped to 30
