And after-the-fact idea: the should have given free tickets to every youth soccer team in Connecticut. Fill the place, attract some new fans and build the market. A genius idea .. if only I had thought of it before the game
Considering that 4 out of the 5 boroughs are not on the US mainland, the vast majority of people in the greater NYC area will need to use a bridge of tunnel to get to a lot of places. Let's face it, no matter where you build it, unless it's in midtown Manhattan, it is going to be inconvenent and a pain in the ass to get to for a lot of people. And for those for whom it's not, they would complain about having to go "all teh way into the city."
So this was written today about the Belmont site and surprise it isn't the teams first choice apparently the state has another site in the Bronx and I think they feel beholden to bid on both sites. The interesting bit is about the site just south of Yankee stadium possibly becoming available again which would be ideal IMO. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/27/sports/soccer/nycfc-stadium-belmont.html?mcubz=0
Not quite true. The Marble Hill neighborhood of Manhattan, pop: 9,481, is situated on the north bank of the Harlem River, making it part of the US mainland.
#NYCFC Announces Venue Change for Final Game of 2017 @MLS Regular Seasonhttps://t.co/xzojvIYOsV— New York City FC (@newyorkcityfc) October 12, 2017 Update the dates, mods! NYCFC: the cluster that keeps on giving.
This doesn't make a whole lot of sense. The Yankees host Games 3/4/5 in the ALCS, finishing on Wednesday 10/18. Then if they advance to the World Series, the new rules this year determine home field by regular season record, and the Yankees have the worst record of the remaining teams, so they would not host until Game 3, Friday 10/27. Possibly they are pushing NYCFC out just to keep the field as pristine as possible for the World Series.
Yeah but this is way better than Hartford. I'm going to this game and I'd think most STH will go as well. So at least they kept it in the city this time around.
Unfreaking believable. This is very damaging...again. 10 day notice. Moving from 1 baseball field to another. Moving a game twice in 1 season. This has to stop.
There is nothing "major league" about NYCFC. They are a minor league puppet to man city and that is all they will ever be. Moving a minor league team around from stadium to stadium or rescheduling playoff games is no big deal.
Well, that's not true. Moving the team around like this is a big deal, especially as the team tries to settle itself in a crowded local sports market. But compared to the DC Uniteds, Colorado Rapids, Philadelphia Unions of MLS, NYCFC certainly has a more "major league" roster, budget, coaching, etc. They (meaning their FO) are stupid, arrogant, and a bit naive...but they're one of the, y'know, better teams in the league.
I don't think it has a more major league budget than the teams you mentioned since every single one of them the owners have built a stadium (or building).
Adjusting a playoff date for stadium availability isn't a unique thing--it's even happened in Seattle.
You guys are missing the point. How can the national teamers ever have quality trapping skills necessary to qualify for the World Cup again when the league has to reschedule two -- TWO matches in a year?
I suspect that college football is the bigger factor than the wrestling. Plenty of MLS teams have had to figure out how to schedule around college football. And the golf is at somebody else's stadium--it's not bumping anything.
