Chicago has never given a damn about flamboyantly flagrant impropriety, never mind mere "hints" of it. Our House is Chicago House more than just in name only.

i believe it was reported in 2017-2018 somewhere that flynn had wanted to go earlier but felt he had to stick around for the new coach. except we were hiring a new GM to pick the new coach.

it also strikes me as very convenient for flynn to stick around until USSF hires the brother of the commercial side leadership, then moves aside in favor of the brother switching over to the commercial side, which could have been done back when he said he wanted to retire but then would have messed up any plan to hire berhalter as coach. now that the coach is hired, flynn decides it's time to quit and like you're saying, his heir apparent is someone whose selection at the time flynn really wanted to retire would have created a conflict of interest nightmare for both brothers.

it kind of feels like it was orchestrated to protect them both (bros.) and secure their positions.

I can't say I keep up on all of this stuff and the running of the federation, but here's what I think. They have a lot of hutzpa to hire a brother of one of the insiders. Do all organizations do this so blatantly? It should never had been allowed no matter what excuses they gave. The entire leadership should be wiped out. Cleaning house should start immediately.

and who will make that happen? It is not an institution we have a say in. No vote. No financial influence [individually] which they give a rat's ass about. No recourse to a court or a publically accountable overseer. Maybe they get so openly corrupt that the feds take interest....... but even then they can still Blazer their way.
They are going to milk this for all it's worth.

At this point, let USSF collapse. When they don’t qualify for Qatar, it’ll destroy what little fan base the MNT still has.

Time to give up on this program.

I must say, I was one of the first people who actually got excited about Bruce Arena coming back and an instant reminder of 2002 era. There was some nostalgia too it.

But, when you found out what these people did to Klinsmann by screwing him over big-time and causing internal chaos, and then now continuing to screw over our program to keep it their way, is just extremely disturbing.

We have old-boy club stooge Stu Holden on-air blasting "Timmy Chandler or Fabian Johnson" I mean what kind of shit is this? Fabian Johnson never turned down any first call-ups and was a silent professional.

They are control freaks and are destroying the program.

Conspiracy theories are more dramatic than incompetence.

We saw something similar in England when they missed World Cup and Euro qualification in 1972, 1974, 1976, 1978 and 1984, an amateur organization not fit to run a professional sport.

He mentioned something about Timmy Chandler refusing a large number of US call ups before he finally accepted one.

Then he mumbled something about Fabian Johnson which I didn't quite catch.

Was the tone "blasting" as referenced? Chandler did weigh his options when he had the chance (and I, for one, don't begrudge him or Dest that)

I don't think it was "blasting" given Holden's main point was that it's understandable Dest might not be ready to make a decision right now.

He wasn't blasting them, he was putting Sergiño Dest's situation in context.

Chandler turned down callups to the US squad while he "found his international identity", Klinsmann's words, not mine.

Holden was saying that Dest isn't ready to commit.

May have been unclear but I was saying that the OP was way off base given what you and An Unpaved Road clarified as the context of what Holden said.

key word "or". which means he did not even do the research on who it was.

That's a clear hit on a certain crew of players.

Ok. I will provide some proof. Now after I provide this, will you adjust to reality or pretend a core group of insiders dont want it their way no matter what? I will leave it up to you.

    https://www.starsandstripesfc.com/2...nsmann-usmnt-technical-director-jay-berhalter

"Klinsmann's role as the program's technical director has diminished to a "ceremonial" role more than a concrete one. U.S. Soccer's chief commercial director Jay Berhalter has reportedly been handling the day-to-day responsibilities as technical director behind the scenes for the last year.

The relationship between manager and technical director is an important one, but it appears that Klinsmann and Berhalter aren't on the best of terms. Berhalter called an important meeting that the U.S. manager wasn't invited to".

Again, Holden didn't say anything negative about Chandler initially turning down competitive games for the U.S. It was just an example of a player not permanently committing at the first opportunity to do so. At worst the "or was it Johnson" thing was a sloppy memory, but I don't see the big deal since he wasn't portraying the idea of unsure dual-internationals in a negative way. Holden himself wasn't born in the U.S., so I think he would be particularly understanding of the decision some players have to make.

Soccer is England's most popular sport, so enough people there were angry that something eventually got done about it.

In the USA, few care enough to do anything, so nothing is gonna change.

    really? LOL.

He used examples of 2 players who are constantly being ignored by your old-boy crew despite top-level Bundesliga seasons.
