21' 1-0 Nielsen backheels ball out through box top (Orlando's) left. Ubogagu collects at 25m mid-left, drives down box left past Kawasumi to 11m, crosses hard low to 6-top 2/5 right. Oyster hooks ball away to 7m 1/3 left, but directly to Pressley unmarked, with Yanez too far away at spot. Pressley touches centerward, shoots hard behind Catley's back and Ld.Williams's dive, into 1/6 right 1/3 high. Welp, dink got stuff-blocked. .@Toni_Deion cleans this chance up with a solid strike and gets the @ORLPride on the board!#ORLvSEA | #NWSLonLIFETIME pic.twitter.com/5uzaJfj6lF— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 21, 2018 23' 1-0 Yanez, retreating through Orlando's box top center, sits down with ... a re-aggravated right foot. Stoppage, trainer helps Yanez limp off slowly. Pre-existing condition, not healed by today's play. 25' 1-0 Seattle subs in (1 of 3) #12 Morgan Andrews for #17 Beverly Yanez (right foot). 26' 1-0 Seattle subs in (2 of 3) #19 Kristen McNabb for #20 Rumi Utsugi (left calf strain). She couldn't last 45', either.
32' 1-0 Marta turn-and-putts a perfect ground pass to Ubogagu cutting inside past Nielsen at 30m mid-left. Nielsen follows closely, thereby relinquishing the right flank. Ubogagu turns a cw cloverleaf, Leroux points down box left, Ubogagu passes inside-out past Nielsen. Leroux offside, shoots across mouth low, Ld.Williams dive-touches ball just wide right. 32' 1-0 1H hydration break.
37' 1-0 Seattle steal and quick pass to J.Taylor posting up at 12m left post, right instep bend across mouth does not fool Kopmeyer, she dive-pushes it wide right and over. Taylor should chip that shot slightly upward for exactly that reason: force the GK to make the 3D interception problem with hand in the air. Stop by Kop™️#ORLvSEA | #NWSLonLIFETIME pic.twitter.com/taK64YS0rL— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 21, 2018 39' 1-0 Kawasumi turns at circle top, sprays wide right to Fishlock at 22m. Fishlock promptly crosses to 8m 1/3 right, J.Taylor runs on and hop-heads to goalline 1/5 left, Kopmeyer dives and catches
58' 1-0 Fishlock quick-pass from arc top to J.Taylor wide-open at 12m 6-right. J.Taylor touches to 9m 1/3 right, pulls Kopmeyer way out to 6-top, resets feet and shoots left instep toward left post -- off Pressley's back, Pressley turns and clears over endline left. Even when J.Taylor gets a clean shot off, something goes wrong. 59' 1-0 Orlando subs in (1 of 3) #9 Camila Martins Pereira for #3 Toni Pressley.
67' 1-0 Orlando subs in (2 of 3) #5 Emily van Egmond for #6 Chioma Ubogagu. Sermanni dedicates somebody to mark Fishlock like glue. 68' 1-0 Fishlock slides at circle center but pass leaks past, directly to Kennedy. Kennedy touches not even to circle top, hoofs another fast lob with Ld.Williams out. This one tails off wide left, bounces off endboard and back into field. OK, Kennedy has done this once (over Bledsoe of Washington), thinks she can do it again -- but she also knows that Ld.Williams might get caught like this? Hehehe 🤔 this feels familiar from @AlannaKennedy. (A slightly different result from the last attempt, though.)#ORLvSEA | #NWSLonLIFETIME pic.twitter.com/1JEZgA3dEf— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 21, 2018 70' 1-1 Catley dribbles away down wide left almost to circle top, Andrews alertly runs a wheel route past her up left touch. Catley passes to Andrews, starts her own cut up wide left, Andrews taps back into Catley's stride, to arc top box left. Catley bends a cross past box top center, just behind J.Taylor spinning ccw facing away. J.Taylor one-touch volleys ball but can't stop it, it continues across to 15m mid-right. Kawasumi is unmarked thereat, steps back to ball and one-touch left instep bend shross is not bending -- but drops softly to 5m center. J.Taylor back-cuts behind Zadorsky, sticks out left instep low and bounces a block/shot under Kopmeyer's left kick-save try, into back right low. .@Jodes_14 finally nabs that goal. All even in Orlando now!#ORLvSEA | #NWSLonLIFETIME pic.twitter.com/bXerxBb8j0— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 21, 2018
79' 1-1 Seattle subs in (3 of 3) #13 Adriana Leon for #9 Nahomi Kawasumi. 79' 1-1 Orlando subs in (3 of 3) #16 Carson Pickett for #12 Kristen Edmonds. Frantic finish, end-to-end. Leon blasted a few long shots wide or over. Ref missed a couple of calls, Sermanni had a few chats with 4R. FT 1-1. Both teams rue chances, but we do that to each other.

Casey tries to touch-and-turn goalward, clangs ball beyond close control, tries to hoof it past box top left but it goes right to Crnogorčević at box top mid-(her) right. Crnogorčević touches to 13m 6-right, shoots 2nd touch across mouth into back left low, as Casey can't reverse direction on wet grass and sprawls down still going the other way. The fact that DC didn't announce the postponement earlier - considering the weather has been like this ALL DAY - is deservedly getting them some heat on Twitter. Nothing changed in the past hour or two aside from an extra hour or two of water getting on the field.
27' 1-2 Freeman outlets to Lytle through circle back. Lytle scoops a pass to Groom at 27m arc right -- meanwhile, Dorsey starts her run by back-cutting past Carpenter unaware through 30m mid-left. Groom jumps facing away, heads back to McCaskill -- as Dorsey bends her run inward on a post route toward box top center. Both Menges and Reynolds step up toward McCaskill still 8m in front of them. McCaskill 2nd touch toe-poke pass splits them cold as Dorsey blows past, rolls through box top center, dies perfectly in Dorsey's stride. Eckerstrom charges out and slides at 13m, Dorsey slide-shoots off Eckerstrom's leg and gets her own leg jammed into self. Ball pops up and drops gently to 2m 1/4 right, bounces into back right edge 2/3 high. .@Imdorsey96 gets one back for @SkyBlueFC!#NJvPOR | #NWSL pic.twitter.com/5LLsbaVJbV— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 21, 2018 McCaskill is a killer passer. Chicago look for Kerr's runs, Sky Blue look for McCaskill's passes.
61' 1-2 Eckerstrom gk, pings around to Boureille at circle back left. Tap back to Salem, she blasts upfield but hits Groom point-blank. Ball (really, the ball) reflects past McCaskill, RCB Ball (Elizabeth Ball ) steps up rashly and whiffs. McCaskill pounces on ball at 25m arc right, one-touch toe poke pass sends Groom past Menges down 6-right lane to 9m. Groom shoots right foot under Eckerstrom's left hand, off right post low. Ball bounces across to 14m mid-left, Dorsey runs on but slices wide left. Mere inches from an equalizer.#NJvPOR | #NWSL pic.twitter.com/ENCgXL20wq— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 22, 2018 81' 1-2 Sky Blue fk at 25m right post, Beckie and Groom stand on ball in a 2-person self-screen. Beckie taps to Killion standing at 26m arc right, she stops ball like a tee, Rodríguez shoots right instep over the right edge of wall, off right 90, bounces wide right and over. Killion collects and veers rightward to circle top box right, threads a fast ground pass through box top right for McCaskill running in a seam behind Klingenberg and Menges. McCaskill bends a ground cross through spot to 10m 1/4 left, Dorsey has wide separation on Carpenter, slide-shoots toward goalline center, Eckerstrom blocks with right leg. Ball bounces out to 12m 1/3 right, Beckie shoots one-touch to goalline center, Carpenter blocks with right foot. .@SkyBlueFC pushed so hard for a stoppage time equalizer, but @Breck28 and @ThornsFC were up to the challenge.#NJvPOR | #NWSL pic.twitter.com/cGCgqqo5bR— National Women’s Soccer League (@NWSL) July 22, 2018 93+4' (of +4') 1-2 Sky Blue right ck, to crossbar center, Eckerstrom back-dumps over bar wide left. 93+5' (of +4') 1-2 Sky Blue left ck, pinged around but not goalward. FT 1-2. A valiant effort, but it just wooden be.
Washington and Sky Blue are having monumental runs of bad luck. I just looked at the play by play for the Washington/Houston game. Washington had almost 60 percent of the possession and took 24 shots, 9 on goal. (Bledsoe, the goalie for Houston, may be the player of the week with 9 saves.) Caprice Dydasco has been one of the best players for Washington this year. I recall in her rookie season I heard somebody say as she took the field, "Who is that little girl?" Well, she's not any bigger, but she's tougher now. Houston, by beating Washington, still has playoff hopes....slim but possible. Houston may ultimately have been the chief beneficiary of the Press debacle. Comeau and Huerta are solid starters for Houston, and Press has not been setting the world on fire in Utah.

Game Report – Houston at Washington. I’m back from DC. Was outside in the all-day rain quite a bit during Saturday and had decided around about supper time, when it was still raining pretty hard, that we were not going to the game. Found out later that they were going to play on Sunday morning. The weather for the game was great – there was actually sunshine early before the cloud cover came in again; and the field was in great shape and played well. I liked the Soccerplex. Seating is close enough to the field that the player voices and ball sounds are quite audible. To my ears, Pauw sounded like she was hollering instructions to the players in Dutch. And at one point some fans were being quite vocal that the ref was screwing up and Gabarra turned to the stands and he added a couple of snide comments of his own – I got the impression that it was not unusual for him to talk to the fans during the game. Getting close to the field enhances what I see and how I feel about the players. I knew that Rachel Daly is a real good player, but after watching her in person, I am a bigger fan of hers than ever – she hustles and makes smart plays and carries the team along with her. She ended up getting a few knocks and needed recovery time and/or attention from the trainer to get back in the game a couple of times – which irked the partisan fans. The last time was near the end of the game, and IMO she definitely stayed down way longer than she needed to – clearly killing time. Since it was not streamed, I’ll make a couple of comments on the play. IMO Washington offense definitely played better together when Eubanks and Solaun came in for Ordega and Banini. Eubanks went up top with Hatch, and Solaun played underneath them. Sullivan had a good game and her role was much clearer when Banini came off. Collectively the Spirit made a helluva push during the final 10 minutes to get the equalizer. My son was very impressed by Quinn’s play, especially throughout the 2nd half. An 11 year old girl sat in front of us – she had on a #22 Agnew Canada Soccer jersey - I could see it was signed. At halftime, the girl showed us she was quite good at playing flip-the-water-bottle. The girl waited by the rail after the game and Agnew came over and they had a nice chat. Daly and Brooks were two of the first players to go to the fans after the game. Sullivan and Campbell had a long chat after the game. Janine Van Wyck sat on the end of the bench after her injury. She stayed there during halftime, and after the game she hobbled off the field under her own power, leaving the set of crutches she had been provided behind on the bench. There were at least a dozen or so Dash fans present including , to my surprise, @LucyFearsTheMorningStar who spotted me in the line for water at halftime. We commiserated about the SkyBlue situation.
CoachJon, here was something about your report that was fantastic. What came through was how you feel about the game.! Love it.
Oh, if you happen to meet Lucy again, say hi by my part! Although we never met in real life, we had a lot of fun in the prediction thread last year.
Rachel Daly more than just hustles, she runs herself ragged and throw her body at any ball that comes near her. Sometimes I worry about her getting herself killed of exhaustion or she would break something
