Confirmation that it is indeed Riley. BREAKING: @WNYFlash expected to introduce former @ThornsFC boss Paul Riley as new head coach on Friday https://t.co/cIXccLkcXF #NWSL @DandC— Jeff DiVeronica (@RocDevo) February 19, 2016
As an Independence fan, I still think Riley is a better coach than what he showed in Portland so I think with an underdog roster such as WNY, he might just surprise people
Thing is, he created Philly's roster from scratch. He didn't have that luxury with Portland, and doesn't have it with WNY either.
This was my first thought: Mini-subplot for the Flash & Riley:Riley now coaching Jessica McDonald again after trading her to Houston following a great 2014 season.— Chris Henderson (@chris_awk) February 19, 2016
Rank your NWSL Coaches! Not because they have great players and fans or a better facility or have a great record but because he or she is the Best Coach!! X and O's , adjustments, training, experience, charisma, trust etc. 1. KC 2. DC 3. Seattle 4. Houston 5. Portland 6. Chicago 7. Orlando 8. WNY 9. Boston 10. NJ

But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Waldrum and Riley have been awful so I'm sticking them last. And Gabarra wasn't very good either, so next to last.
Another female assistant coach. I'm still waiting for Cox to be named an assistant coach (or Academy coach) by the Reign NEWS: Breakers name @catwhitehill4 assistant coach, club ambassador.Read: https://t.co/dQ3rxWmck2. pic.twitter.com/OzTM03bDNd— Boston Breakers (@BostonBreakers) March 1, 2016
Congrats to Cat! Still hoping we get some more female head coaches, too, only one of ten at the moment... (Also hoping to see more American head coaches, though that's less pressing at four of ten at the moment)
Well I am hoping that maybe she is considering a serious move into coaching, and this is a step in that direction. She would probably be awesome at it. I know she gets a fair amount of broadcast work but maybe she is seriously considering the coaching track.
I'm not even going to comment on this. BREAKING: #WNYFlash announce return of Scott Vallow as assistant coach. Welcome back! pic.twitter.com/VKemukAqT6— WNY Flash (@WNYFlash) March 10, 2016
I'm like a broken record. but I have to, for the newer readers: Vallow, ...spent last season an assistant to Riley with the Portland Thorns ... Last year's NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year was Portland's Michelle Betos. Vallow also tutored U.S. national team keeper Ashlyn Harris with the WPS champion Flash in 2011 when she won the league honor as its top goalie. He also has worked with Adrianna Franch during her standout 2013 rookie season with WNY and goalkeepers coach for the Rhinos in 2012 when Kristian Nicht earned the USL's top goalie honors. http://www.democratandchronicle.com...cott-vallow-returns-flash-assistant/81592474/
My daughter just about attacked me with joy when she heard this!!! He's a great GK coach!! Glad to have him back!

Well, it could be sponsor generated, since Microsoft is on the front of the Reign kit and Xbox is on the Sounders women's.
I had to go all the way to the 4th page to find this thread. But interesting piece of tidbit here as apparently Harvey will be coaching the U-23 in La Mango this year. #USWNT U-23 roster for tournament in La Manga, Spain. Seattle Reign's Laura Harvey will coach the team. pic.twitter.com/OsB9jhDVKD— Our Game Magazine (@OurGameMagazine) February 24, 2017
VERY interesting! I like the move. Also of note the two coaches at the most senior level of USWNT both come from England.
Wonder how this plays into Harvey coaching the U-23's in the PDX preseason tournament.... & why Seattle wasn't part of it.
