Winners advance to NPSL national finals, Aug. 2-3 at Northeast site

    Saturday's matches
Atlanta FC (6-1) at St. Paul Twin Stars (4-2)
San Diego United (5-2-1) at Sonoma County Sol (6-0-3)

    Sunday's match
New York Athletic Club (5-3-2) at Pennsylvania Stoners (8-1-1)

    Date unknown
Boston Aztec (6-3-1) at Long Island Academy (7-0-2)

    How they qualified
    Atlanta FC: Won Southeast
St. Paul Twin Stars: Won Midwest (by 1 point over Princeton-56ers and Chicago Fire NPSL)
    San Diego United: Won Southwest
Sonoma County Sol: Won Northwest (by 1 point over Santa Cruz County Breakers)
    Pennsylvania Stoners: Won Northeast Northern
Long Island Academy: Won Northeast Mid-Atlantic
Boston Aztec: Finished second in Northeast Northern
New York Athletic Club: Finished second in Northeast Mid-Atlantic

Essentially, the Northeast is having a four-team tournament and gets two berths in the finals (because they have the most teams). The other four division winners play each other for the other two spots. I believe they will play a Northeast championship game next weekend to determine where the national finals will be, even though the winner and loser will advance.

Where can I get updated final standings. The records for the Northeast on the web site seem to be incomplete.

Mine aren't final for the Northeast -- I'm not sure whether some of these postponed games are being made up, or were made up. I see the NPSL site has Maine and Morris County with 10 matches in the standings, but that doesn't match with the results. Charm City is the team formerly known as Maryland United. Not sure what happened there.

Lancaster Inferno 3-3-2 11 (one game ppd., one game not reported)
    AC Diablos 2-5-3 9
    Northern Division
Pennsylvania Stoners 8-1-0 24 (one game ppd.)
    Boston Aztec 6-3-1 19
    Queen City FC 1-5-4 7
Maine Sting 0-5-4 3 (one game ppd.)
Morris County Colonials 0-7-1 1 (two games ppd.)

    Midwest
St. Paul Twin Stars 4-2-0 12
    Princeton-56ers 3-1-2 11

I haven't seen the match reports come out for those ppd matches. As soon as they come about I will let you know. The ppd. matches didn't affect the playoffs either.

The Stoners vs Lancaster game that was halted due to lightning after 26 minutes is being called a tie. So the Stoners would be 8-1-1. And that means you can add a tie to Lancaster's results.

I don't know how this is going to work, but I was told that the Northeast semifinal between Boston Aztec and Long Island Academy is next Friday, July 25.

FYI. The Finals are going to be at Mitchell Athletic Complex in Long Island, it was decided last night at the commissioner conference call.

So now the Penn Stoners-NYAC game is going to be July 28 or 29

    http://www.pennstoners.org/?p=122

With the news from Keem on the finals being at Long Island either way, I'm wondering if they're going to skip the Northeast final -- both semifinal winners advance anyway

It wouldn't be the NPSL unless there was all sorts of wackiness. I was just looking at the Boston Aztec site, and even their playoff writeup includes phrases like "apparently" and "unofficial speculation"

Would the finals be on the weekend of August 2-3? From talking to some players, most of the D1 players are done playing as of the end of July, as it will be too close to preseason to risk injury.

I'm surprised they even had a write up on their site.

And yes the finals are the weekend of August 1-3. Even last year our D1 players weren't allowed to play in the finals and they were a week earlier.

It's interesting to see, as the PDL final is August 9th as well. So I'm curious to see how many D1 players play in that match-up. It's a hard choice for players to play for a national title or risk losing out to an injury for your college season.

And there should a Northeastern Regional Final, as the winner moves onto the US Open Cup Region I Tournament.

I know that Princeton-56ers DI players played in the finals last year. And two of them went back to California a few weeks later for that All-Star Game against Chivas USA reserves.

Stoners win NPSL Final. Hat trick from Tom Ehrlich.
