I can choose from several of them, sweet pea...

"You have no coherent argument, Jeff. You never have. You have gotten your ass kicked rhetorically here for years and you are no closer today to your prawn dream than you were five years ago or eight years ago."

You've been a consummate asshole to me (and several others on this forum) for several years, Kenn...

First off, I've never gotten my "ass kicked rhetorically"... that sir, is a lie you keep repeating in an effort to dupe some poor suckers into believing it.

Second, calling me a "prawn" says far more about your biased arrogance as a frequent apologist for MLS and the status quo than it will ever say about me.

Third, over the past 5 years, we've gone from the NASL giving lip service to Pro/Rel in an effort to force some sort of quixotic merger with MLS, to seeing people at several levels (Crowley at NPSL, Wilt at NISA and Silva in the NASL) working in their own ways towards it as an ultimate goal.

And finally, I wasn't even discussing the subject of Pro/Rel "eight years ago" or, if memory serves, even "five years ago" as I had no strong feelings either way at that time... so phrasing it as if I'd always been "dreaming" of Pro/Rel is pretty misleading, if not an outright lie.

I slowly started evolving on the subject after I spoke with a local city councilman about the idea of converting old Drillers Stadium to soccer for use in the new NASL. The seeds of my discontent with lower division soccer in general had already been planted by both USL's Sr. Director of Franchise Development, Matt Weibe in a rather bizarre salespitch in 2009 and after a few years of correspondence/conversations with NASL/FtL Strikers/Traffic Sports' Aaron Davidson. What eventually became the linchpin was hearing the same city councilman in late 2012 tell me that MLS would consider Tulsa a candidate for expansion if the league (wink, wink... nudge, nudge) decided to expand past 24 to at least 28 teams.

And so I looked back with 20/20 hindsight at Lamar Hunt and Don Garber trying to leverage a soccer stadium deal in Tulsa as the only way the city could ever get a team... at a time in 2002 when TU's Skelly Stadium already had plans for what eventually became a $25 mil renovation which downsized the fixed seating capacity to 27k and added a new press box with the same number of corporate suites as FC Dallas's stadium in Frisco... and the original proposal included plans to widen the field and convert to grass.

I laughed when I found out how Precourt sweet talked Columbus as the "Green Bay Packers of MLS" after he bought the team.... funny, but I grew up with the "Green Bay Packers of the old NASL," the Tulsa Roughnecks... and I have a healthy amount of respect for the "Green Bay Packers of the old MISL," the Wichita Wings.

I want MORE teams like this in MLS, not less.
And that's where Pro/Rel comes into play.
I know what side I'm on.

In other news, predicting around a dozen new teams in the NPSL for 2018, and a split in some regions resulting in about 40 or so clubs in a regionalized top tier, with the remainder in the lower tier. But wouldn't put it past NPSL to shelve that idea for a different year depending on what pans out with the NASL and NISA. Lotsa moving parts.

    El Farolito Joins the NPSL

NPSL is proud to announce that El Farolito (San Francisco, CA) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the West Region’s Golden Gate Conference.

“The NPSL is thrilled to add El Farolito as an expansion team for 2018,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “They bring a storied history, a passionate fan base, and an incredible gameday venue to our West Region and we couldn’t be happier to have them as part of the NPSL family.”

The club is led by Salvador and Santiago Lopez. Salvador is the founder of the club, while Santiago is the General Manager and has been in charge of the club for the past seven years.

“Very exciting times are ahead for the club and players,” Santiago Lopez added. “The chance to travel to different cities in our region and play in stadiums in front of soccer fans we have never seen before really motivates us to work hard and present a competitive squad each game. We will be playing against teams full of talented, young and experienced players ready to defend their club to the fullest. We are looking forward to a real test for everyone in our organization.”

El Farolito was founded in 1985 and was named after the chain of restaurants “Taquerias El Farolito” in Northern California. Gaining promotion to the top division of the San Francisco Soccer Football League in five years and winning the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 1993 were two major milestones for the organization.

“We are focused in not only to provide a professional environment to all players and staff being involved or interested in working with the organization, but we want to be another club open to connect with other clubs, players in the region and country to help grow the sport and transmit a positive and working environment,” Santiago Lopez continued. “We want to represent the league and sport locally, nationally, and internationally.”

El Farolito will play their home games at Boxer Stadium, one of the oldest soccer-specific stadiums in the country. The facility was opened in September 1953 as Balboa Park Soccer Stadium. It is now called Matthew J. Boxer Stadium in honor of the late president of the San Francisco Soccer Football League, a league that is over 100 years old.

“The NPSL has been a league that has been growing and will continue to grow,” Santiago Lopez concluded. “They are surrounded by professional, experienced, and most importantly, passionate people who love the game. The league offers an excellent structure of competition for all types of players and organizations.”

Laredo Heat Soccer Club Joins the NPSL

NPSL is proud to announce that Laredo Heat Soccer Club (Laredo, TX) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Texas Conference.

“We are excited to bring a team of Laredo Heat’s caliber into the NPSL family,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone said. “They are a tremendous organization that has a storied tradition of winning on a national stage. Fans and supporters in Texas should look forward to this addition with great enthusiasm.”

Heat SC is led by Owners Shashi and Priya Vaswani, front office members Mrinali and Rishi Vaswani, Marketing Specialist Edith Ortiz, and General Manager J.J. Vela. The team’s coaching staff will be announced at a later date.

“We will most definitely bring a high level of professionalism both on and off the field so that we are perceived as an asset to both our conference and the league,” Shashi Vaswani commented.

The team will play home games at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX. The facility has a grass playing surface that measures at 116 yards x 78 yards with no football lines. The seating capacity is 2,000 and the facility also includes a press box and VIP seating area in close proximity to the playing field. The stadium is also the home to the NCAA Division II Texas A&M International University men’s and women’s soccer programs.

“Expectations will always be high for our club when it comes to play on the pitch,” Vela added. “We have been out of the soccer scene for two years now with our senior club and can’t wait to get back to competing with the other quality clubs that play in the NPSL to see how we will fare after our hiatus. At the end of the season, we expect to represent our community with dignity and play well enough to bring it a league championship.”

Heat SC was founded in 2004. The club played in the USL PDL for 12 years, competing in the USL PDL title game in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011. Laredo would win the USL PDL Championship in 2007. Their title sponsor is Falcon Bank.

“We chose the NPSL primarily for the competitive structure and the number of teams in the region,” Vela concluded. “It made sense to be financially responsible, because of this, the NPSL as a whole made the decision easier.”

More information about the club can be found at www.laredoheatsc.com or by following the club on Facebook (@laredoheatsc), Instagram (@laredoheatsc), and Twitter (@LaredoHeatSC).

Greenville Football Club Joins the NPSL

NPSL is proud to announce that Greenville Football Club (Greenville, SC) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Southeast Conference.

“We are thrilled to see Greenville FC joining the NPSL family,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “They are a wonderful addition to one of our country’s most competitive conferences. Soccer fans in South Carolina should be very excited about GVL FC.”

The ownership group of Greenville FC is led by Marco Carrizales, Richard Carrizales II, and Richard Carrizales Sr.

Marco Carrizales is the President/CEO and Majority Owner of Greenville FC. Selected as the 84th pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by FC Dallas, Marco left the team after completing preseason having decided it was time to take a different path, while still continuing to give back to the sport that gave him so much. Marco, a native of Dallas, Texas has returned to Greenville after playing his collegiate career at Furman University to build something for the community: Greenville Football Club. Having been part of a number of professional, collegiate, and premier youth academies around the country as well as studied under some of the most influential management and ownership groups in U.S. soccer today, Marco is prepared and ready to make a statement with Greenville FC.

“As a first-year club, Greenville FC’s expectations both on and off the field are very high, but we remain realistic and will stop at nothing to build a club that is competitive, sustainable and representative of the entire Greenville and Upstate community,” Marco Carrizales added. “We want to build a team the city and region are proud to call their own.”

Richard Carrizales II joins his brother Marco as the Chief Operating Officer and Co-Owner of Greenville FC, having spent his last eight years working in business development, sports marketing, and entertainment. Richard brings a myriad of industry knowledge and skills to the ownership group that has proven beneficial in building Greenville Football Club from the ground up.

Richard Carrizales Sr. joins his sons Richard and Marco, as the third Co-Owner of Greenville FC and will also serve as General Counsel to the club. As an ex-collegiate DI soccer player for North Texas and an attorney for over 30 years, Richard Sr. will play an integral role in providing the overall vision and direction for the club.

“Greenville FC aims to become a staple organization in the U.S. soccer ecosystem and the NPSL,” Marco Carrizales continued. “Through our unique business model, we will provide a solid foundation for local elite talent to grow and develop within a professionally managed environment, as well as, use the club as a vehicle to promote the sport of soccer in communities across the country and world. With the success that our neighbors Asheville City SC and Chattanooga FC have had, we know that the Southeast Conference is set to be very strong. With some already brewing rivalries, we are confident that we have the elite talent right here in the Greenville area that will make us strong competition from the first kick.”

More information about the club can be found at www.gvlfc.com or by following the club on Facebook (@gvlfc), Instagram (@gvlfc), and Twitter (@gvlfc).

“Greenville FC applied to join the NPSL because we want to bring something new to the Greenville community, and show the national soccer landscape that there is a place for local professional clubs to grow from the ground up and succeed in this country,” Marco Carrizales concluded. “The Greenville soccer community has been deserving of a team for some time, and with the NPSL’s governance and team-run operating structure, this allows us the right platform in order to build a unique club, and has the ability to scale with us as we grow with the active Greenville community.”

NPSL is proud to announce that Katy 1895 FC (Katy, TX) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Texas Conference.

“We are excited to see continued growth in Texas, one of the great hotbeds of American soccer,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “The addition of Katy 1895 FC allows us to bring NPSL soccer to yet another community in the Lone Star State and we know that fans and supporters will be thrilled by this addition.”

The leadership of Katy 1895 FC includes Owners Michael and Noel Veith, Head Coach James Krueger, and Technical Director/Goalkeeper Coach Eddie Bloise.

Krueger, who played collegiately at Midwestern State University, has been the head coach at Seven Lakes High School for nine years, leading his varsity team to the UIL playoffs each year.

Bloise has over 15 years of coaching experience and is currently head boys’ soccer coach at Katy High School. A former professional player, Bloise has United States Soccer Federation (USSF), United Soccer Coaches (USC), and La Liga Methodology coaching credentials.

“Katy is a strong soccer community within the fastest growing county in Texas,” Michael Veith added. “The soccer fan base here is vibrant and we believe that Katy 1895 FC games will be a great activity for families in Katy and the surrounding area. We believe that we can grow soccer even more by providing an exciting team of local talent that will connect with the community. We love the fact that the NPSL has such a great reputation and their leadership is fantastic.”

Home matches will be played at Saint John XXIII High School.

“At Katy 1895 FC our focus will be on providing the best training and experience possible to help our players grow and improve so that they, in turn, help their college teams,” Michael Veith concluded. “We strive to be the team that players will come to for their summer training.”

In my defense, it's really only to morons. People who refuse to come off an untenable position when faced with objective reality and then whine about it to boot, well... (And I'm not the only one who's pointed out the flaws in your arguments.)

    No, it's actually true.

You've never had a coherent argument. You've been shown time and time again how your position can't stand up to scrutiny. And when you're called on it, you whine about the unfairness of it all and the mean old moderators who let it happen.

You just have an untenable position, Jeff. You always have.

No, it actually says that you don't know what the term means.

I gain nothing by the status quo staying in place. Nothing.

I merely point out to idiots like you the unworkable position you champion.

There are pages and pages and pages and pages of people pointing out to you the economic realities that make pro/rel unworkable on these shores. You refuse to believe them. But they're true.

    What does that make you?

    And good for them.

Working toward that goal is great. I have no problem with working toward that goal.

For the millionth time, I don't have a problem with the concept. I have a problem with the people who insist it's
    ( a ) totally doable in the near-term
    ( b ) a moral imperative
( c ) going to come with all these amazing benefits

None of those things are true. That's my problem. Which I've also explained to you time and time again. And which you also refuse to understand.

It's not going to keep franchises from moving. It's not going to miraculously bring the other 99 Christian Pulisics out of the woodwork. TV ratings won't miraculously skyrocket because people think a match to determine who sucks a little bit less - which would include some of the worst, most cynical soccer that could possibly be played - is must-see TV.

And pro/rel has zippity-do-dah to do with that.

Do you think it's a coincidence that 82% of the teams in major sports in this country are in the top 30 markets? Do you think that is maybe a clue that the Des Moineses of the world aren't equipped to be in Division I? And never will be?

If you choose to live in Saginaw or Binghamton or Spokane, great. But you should have no expectation of having a team in the top division of anything (and please, don't tell me about Green Bay - without the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961, they'd have been gone long ago). Because real life is not an ABC Afterschool Special where the plucky little team of outsiders rises up the ranks and knocks off the giants in a miracle finish.

You want that? As Garth Lagerway once famously said, "Cool. Emigrate." Because that ain't happening here.

NPSL is proud to announce that FC Baltimore (Baltimore, MD) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the Northeast Region’s Mid-Atlantic Conference.

“It’s exciting news that the NPSL is coming to Baltimore,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “FC Baltimore is bringing a tremendous organization to the city and I know soccer supporters in the region will be thrilled by this news.”

The leadership of FC Baltimore includes Project Manager Joe Shargorodsky, Director of Soccer Operations Alex Lubyansky, Director of Community Relations/Goalkeeping Coach William Vanzela, Head Coach Brandon Quaranta, Chief Financial Officer Paul Zlotolow, and Director of Digital Media and Branding Gary Pyatigorsky.

Shargorodsky and Lubyansky, brothers born in Ukraine who grew up in Michigan, have always had a passion for soccer. Both played at youth clubs and in high school, and Lubyansky went on to play for the University of Michigan and then for Dynamo Kiev in the Ukraine. Furthermore, Lubyansky was the 2005 NPSL National Championship MVP in a thrilling double-overtime shutout performance for Detroit Arsenal. Thirteen years later, the brothers seek another NPSL title, this time as co-owners of FC Baltimore.

Born in Brazil and instilled with a supernatural passion for soccer, Vanzela has played and coached at the highest levels of the game. He is the current starting goalkeeper for the Baltimore Blast, Baltimore’s championship-winning professional indoor soccer team. He is also the goalkeeping coach at Johns Hopkins University.

Quaranta has led teams to three US Soccer Youth Soccer National Championships (2010, 2014, 2015). During the same time, he has been an incredible high school soccer coach in one of the most competitive states in the nation. Most impressively, he led McDonogh School to a state championship with an undefeated run in 2015. This success has led him to be a two-time recipient of the NSCAA Maryland State Coach of the Year award.

Born in Argentina and having grown up in Philadelphia, Zlotolow has had a lifelong love for soccer. A promising soccer career, including playing at the college varsity level and briefly in the pros, was cut short by a leg injury. Since that time, he has managed and grown several companies with a tremendous track record of success. He will be overseeing the finances as well as much of the operations of FC Baltimore.

Pyatigorsky’s passion and competition in sports transfers over in everything he does in life. He is the CEO and CFO of Netembark LLC, a full service digital marketing agency and brings over 17 years of digital marketing experience. Before Netembark, he spent four years managing the Branding and Field Marketing Department for Philip Morris. He has been featured in numerous publications, including Business Week, Business Insider, and Forbes. As a Director of Digital Media and Branding for FC Baltimore, Pyatigorsky will identify new and creative digital marketing growth strategies and evaluate trends, tools, and technologies within the digital marketing landscape.

“We expect to field a highly competitive team while providing a fun game day experience for our fans,” Lubyansky added. “We bring a tremendous competitive spirit and desire to contribute to the development of high-level soccer in this country. I know firsthand what it takes to win in the NPSL, and the team will build upon this championship-winning experience to bring the trophy to Baltimore.”

Another defection in Laredo, after Midland moved to NPSL this past season.
And the very same people who once spearheaded Energy U23's PDL club are patiently waiting to see if OKC Imps FC will be admitted this year as well...

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Dec. 21, 2017) – The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) announced today that the Atlantic City Football Club (ACFC) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the Northeast Region’s Keystone Conference. ACFC, sponsored by Tropicana Atlantic City, will be led by seasoned sports professionals including Research Producer for DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket Andrew Weilgus and Co-founder of QuizzoTrivia.com and Atlantic City Fantasy Sports Nicholas Bilotta III.

“We are very excited to see the continued growth of our Keystone Conference with a great addition like Atlantic City FC,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “Atlantic City is a tremendous market for soccer and we’re glad to have ACFC as part of the NPSL family.”

“Atlantic City FC will offer a truly unique destination within the Keystone Conference,” said Andrew Weilgus. “Although Atlantic County has roughly 250,000 full-time residents, our island draws 20 million tourists a year and has world-wide brand recognition. Our partnership with the Tropicana Atlantic City will allow for an amazing destination experience for soccer fans; we enter the NPSL as the only minor league sports organization in Atlantic City. Our primary goal is to give our area something to rally behind and root for while doing our part to properly grow the game domestically for the benefit of our national team. We have a lot of underserved sections of Atlantic County and we hope to assist in providing them support and growth.”

The club is enthusiastic about finalizing arrangements to hold home matches at Stockton University, located in the heart of Atlantic County and roughly 15 miles from downtown Atlantic City.

“We believe the NPSL embodies a lot of what we want to bring to Atlantic City,” said ACFC Co-Owner/ Chief Operating Officer Nicholas Bilotta III. “Successful teams like Detroit City FC, Kingston Stockade, New Orleans Jesters, Elm City Express, and many others offered a tremendous source of inspiration for us. The community focus, the exciting experience, and the player development were all very attractive factors in our decision.”

Stockton University’s soccer program is storied, having won the 2001 NCAA Division III Men’s National Championship along with several other honors for the men’s and women’s programs. The field is a stunning natural grass pitch with bleacher seating for over 2,000 people. Additional areas will be set up for corporate sponsors with prime viewing. Game day plans include free youth soccer clinics, a farmers’ market, food truck festival, and hospitality garden along with regional musicians and artists.

“We really want to bring Atlantic City and Stockton together as a community and this offers the perfect chance to do that,” said Paul Kelly, ACFC media director and a Stockton graduate.

Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian added, “Since 2009 we have been without a sports team of our own…until now. I can tell you from personal experience that soccer really has become a popular sport here in Atlantic City, and it’s a great move by Tropicana to be fully supporting this new sports team. The Atlantic City FC will bring national recognition and economic infusion to the area. We’re thrilled to be able to root for the home team once again."

The team has deals to be carried on local and regional radio and will offer Spanish and English broadcasts. “We want our area to know that this will be more than a soccer game it will be a community event with things the entire family can enjoy,” added Bilotta.

ACFC sponsor, Tropicana Atlantic City was instrumental in the team's creation.

“Soccer is the fastest growing sport in the country. We are happy to bring more fun and excitement to the local community and our guests as a proud sponsor of the Atlantic City FC,” said Tropicana Atlantic City General Manager Steve Callender.

“Our partnership with Tropicana Atlantic City allows for a first class experience for our players who will be housed at the resort’s newly acquired Chelsea Tower. We also have several additional partnerships with area businesses and organizations including the Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce and we look forward to bringing positive results on and off the field to Atlantic County,” concluded Weilgus.

For more information about the Atlantic City Football Club visit AtlanticCityFC.com or follow the club on Instagram (@AtlanticCityFC), Facebook (@AtlanticCityFC), and Twitter (@AtlanticCityFC). Does anyone have any insights into the great Lakes conference? I'm assuming we haven't heard schedule yet because of DCFC being tied up with the NASL decision.
Also Davi mentioned new team(s) in a post after the AOM. I assumed Kokomo Mantis, but he said not Michigan, Indiana or Wisconsin.. what's left... Illinois? Could it be the Mustangs coming back or possibly Rockford?
