And then there were two. The penultimate round of the 2017 NPFL season is complete and both Akwa United and Enyimba have been eliminated from title contention. Akwa United's loss to Shooting Stars and Enyimba's draw to Rangers mean the two teams will have to settle for third place. Enyimba's draw vaults them of Akwa by one point going into the final round. The champion will be either Plateau United or MFM FC, who with their victory have guaranteed Champions League football in Lagos for the first time since 2004 (when Julius Berger were knocked out in the Qualifying Round).
