Working on the assumption that the business model for the Chicago Fire has been not to invest in an USL team because of tight purse strings, will the Fire now run a USL squad? Now the team has the pockets to invest in a full time second division team to develop future first team players, get returning injured players back to match fitness and sharpness, and making a statement about who runs the city's soccer landscape. Maybe as part of NR's proposed off-season brand "refreshing", the Chicago Fire Soccer Club will show initiative towards further developing a league powerhouse organization by dedicating player development beyond sending four guys a year to another organization in the second division, which hopefully has a playing style and training regime that meshes with CFSC. And push the games profile in Chicago by creating a Chicago derby. Or should I just finish this bottle of Malort?
Let's hope a USL side is in the plans. Something like Sporting KC's (Swope Park Rangers) model is what I'd like to see.
That's what I was thinking. Ricketts and Joe partner up, buy out Bridegview and play in the Sterling Bay stadium or a new downtown stadium. You'd think with both Ricketts and Joe they'd have enough pull to get a stadium built downtown.
no to the malort. Bad idea. Would be kind of embarrassing with 2 usl squads in the city and one of them plaupla in Bridgeview no?
No, Joe buys out Andy , Joe buys ChiSox , Joe works out redevelop deal around Sox park with Soccer stadium, Joe waives territory clause for Chicago with bridgeview split buyout stip , Ricketts and joe pay bridgeview buyout , Chicago is home to most insane derby in MLS.. I can dream right?
If we are dreaming how about here? https://www.google.com/maps/place/N...85c5e9925ec24a!8m2!3d41.8630889!4d-87.6081068
I hope not. I want one team the whole city can be behind like the Bears, the Bulls, or the Blackhawks. Also the last thing we need is a bunch of wannabe “ultras” scuffling with one another like what happens between NYCFC and Red Bull.
To be fair, NY fans were doing that before they had a derby to fight over. The first ever Union trip to NYRB ended up with a shattered window on a charter buss full of Philly fans from a thrown rock. Honestly my one qualm about the Munis joining the local fray is the pretentious obnoxiousness of newbie "true supporters" who've never had to deal with years of mismanagement of a bad team.
