The USWNT will head to Europe to face Portugal in Lisbon on Nov. 8 (1 pm ET on ESPN2) and Scotland in Glasgow on Nov. 13 (2 pm ET on FS1 and UDN). Also just when you thought the roster was pretty much set, we get some surprise call-ups (Fox, Colaprico, Sullivan, and McDonald are the surprises for me; Mathias makes sense with O'Hara out; Long must be healthy again so is back in camp): U.S. WNT Roster by Position – Portugal-Scotland Tour ’18 (Caps/Goals): GOALKEEPERS (3): Adrianna Franch (Portland Thorns FC; 0/0), Ashlyn Harris (Orlando Pride; 18/0), Alyssa Naeher (Chicago Red Stars; 37/0) DEFENDERS (7): Abby Dahlkemper (NC Courage; 28/0), Crystal Dunn (NC Courage; 73/24), Emily Fox (UNC; 0/0), Merritt Mathias (NC Courage; 1/0), Becky Sauerbrunn (Utah Royals FC; 147/0), Casey Short (Chicago Red Stars; 27/0), Emily Sonnett (Portland Thorns FC; 24/0) MIDFIELDERS (7): Danielle Colaprico (Chicago Red Stars; 0/0), Julie Ertz (Chicago Red Stars; 71/18), Lindsey Horan (Portland Thorns FC; 61/7), Rose Lavelle (Washington Spirit; 18/6), Allie Long (Seattle Reign FC; 39/6), Samantha Mewis (NC Courage; 40/8), Andi Sullivan (Washington Spirit; 10/0) FORWARDS (7): Tobin Heath (Portland Thorns FC; 142/25), Carli Lloyd (Sky Blue FC; 263/105), Jessica McDonald (NC Courage; 1/0), Alex Morgan (Orlando Pride; 151/97), Christen Press (Utah Royals FC; 106/46), Mallory Pugh (Washington Spirit; 41/12), Megan Rapinoe (Seattle Reign FC; 144/41)

Ive liked Fox for a long time and she is just coming back into her own after a knee injury but November is not the time for Ellis to be calling up college players. While it's a great chance for Fox to put her name in the hat it just isn't fair to her team.
After the spirited discussion/speculation during the latest California swing regarding the number/scheduling of Matches before the WWC next summer - - the title of this article clarifies the short-term: https://www.ussoccer.com/stories/20...ellis-qa-usa-brings-2018-to-a-close-in-europe Hey, I say 2018 isn't over until the Big Soccer posters say its over.
I dunno-- maybe the concern is more about what if Davidson isn't ready yet and, say, Brunn gets hurt? Not sure college problems are so much a part of Ellis' job description that one call up more or less matters.
correct. they can always turn down the call. but most players and their college coaches (who may actually use these callups in recruiting) want those opportunities -even at the ynt level (as some mens college players are proving this week for u20 wcq) nt coaches are kind enough to work with college and club coaches when they can. but as is not possible to avoid conflicts with so much soccer being played, they just have to do their jobs. some things take priority. fortunately, the college player decides. if my favorite college team is losing a key player at a crucial time, sure it's a bummer. but… … of such complications is real life made.
So Fox is supposed to play center back on the USWNT if these two are unavailable? Sorry but no. If Jill had actually spent time cultivating depth from NWSL instead of fannying around calling up college players du jour, we would be better off. If Sauerbrunn or Dahlkemper or Davidson were to suffer a long-term injury, who better than to have someone like Emily Menges ready to step up? But no-- Jill refuses to give her any attention.
Really? Why would anyone believe Fox could play CB in a four back? Fox's game is getting up and down the flank.
From the USSoccer website "The U.S. Women’s National Team will bring its 2018 schedule to a close with two matches in Europe, the first one coming against Portugal on Nov. 8 in Lisbon (1 p.m. ET on ESPN2) at Estadio António Coimbra da Mota, the 8,000-seat home to Second Division club G.D. Estoril Praia." Not very optimistic of the hosts putting it in an 8k stadium. Hopefully the crickets enjoy the match.

“I’ll miss Scotland, even the weather. It doesn’t rain as often as people say. I don’t know how I’ll cope with Swedish winters again – snow, November to April, and so cold all the time. Brrrr.” [Anna Signeul, fomer Scotland WNT coach, and possibly the only person who actaully realy likes the weather in Scotland.]
Rain. That was my sarcastic response, but even looking it up online, it looks to be true (rainy and in the 40s). Thankfully, it looks to be mostly clear and in the low 50s in Lisbon.
Bad News: It is a Cold November Thursday Great News: It is MATCH DAY Warm your heart and brighten your day with some Awesomeness from across the pond. High 50's, cloudy......not bad. 89 minutes to Heaven on Earth.
A slight misquote: "It is good Scottish weather, the rain is falling straight down. Well a bit to the side." The US Northwest and Scotland have a lot (of water) in common.
