I'm pretty sure it's only senior side.

Adu has played for USA U17 - U20, but he was still being invited to
    play with Ghana.

Roller Cambindo se prueba en Polonia
    8/11/2006

    Jets ask and Milton delivers
    Sunday, 17 September, 2006 - 6:13PM
On Thursday afternoon, after the weekly press conference, Jets CEO George Liolio mustered up what little Spanish he knew to give new recruit Milton Rodriguez a directive.

“Dos goles el domingo” George attempted as he and Milton departed the Newcastle United Sports Club. (This translates into “two goals on Sunday”)

Milton gave a reassured “Si” as he got into his car.

No one can now doubt that Milton Rodriguez is a man of his word.

There was immense pressure on the Jets coming into today’s match against Sydney FC. They have managed only one draw from three games with the last game against Adelaide finishing in a disastrous 5-1 loss. However, there was also a lot of hope and interest generated by the return of Joel Griffiths from suspension, Jade North from injury and the introduction of Milton Rodriguez.

The game started as an armwrestle with neither team controlling the ball the way they would like. Joel Griffiths started the match wide on the right and was using his pace well to track back into defence for the Jets.

The first shot of the game came via Vaughan Coveny. On 8 minutes, Coveny was fed through on the right by Mark Bridge and struck the ball hard but high, just above the left hand corner of the goal.

Sydney FC returned fire on 20 minutes through Steve Corica who shot wide to the right from 20 metres.

On 21 minutes Coveny succumbed to a groin injury and was substituted off. On came number 5. Milton Rodriguez, looking the part of his superstar billing. The new boy didn’t take long to make an impact. On 25 minutes, Milton fed the ball to Nicky Carle who shot low and hard from just outside the penalty area but the Sydney keeper got down low to take the ball safely.

The first goal of the match came in controversial circumstances. Sydney FC were charging up the middle of the park in the Jets half. Joel Griffiths brought down a Sydney player outside the penalty area but the referee waved play on, giving Sydney the advantage. The ball was passed through to Zdrillic who was being marked by Paul Okon in the penalty area. Zdrillic, being pressured for the ball, went to ground. The referee blew his whistle and pointed to the penalty spot.

Steve Corica stepped forward to take the penalty and made no mistake, hitting it sweetly into the top right corner of the goal above a diving Ben Kennedy.

The Jets maintained their composure had the next opportunity as North found himself in open space outside the penalty area. He let fly but his shot was just over the Sydney goal.

Then disaster then struck for the Jets. Paul Kohler skied a clearance which drifted back towards his own goal. The Jets defence could not deal with the ensuing bouncing ball and David Zdrillic flicked a header over Jets keeper Ben Kennedy and into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

Sydney were now playing confidently as the Jets soaked up a lot of pressure. However, toward the end of the first half the Jets started to get back into the game.

On 45 minutes Milton Rodriguez had his first shot on goal from 25 metres but was just to the left of the goal.

In the first minute of injury time the Jets created their first goal of the match, and what a goal it was! Joel Griffiths fed Nicky Carle down the left who showed great pace to get around his defender. Carle squared the ball to Milton Rodriguez who popped the ball up with his first touch and struck a fantastic shot into the Sydney goal to bring the score back to 2-1.

The second half belonged to the Newcastle Jets, and the team obviously gained great confidence from Milton’s late strike in the first half.

A fantastic opportunity was created on the 59 minute, again through the Griffith-Carle-Rodriguez combination. Griffith fed the ball to Milton who found Carle open inside the penalty area. Carle unfortunately took a touch on the ball and gave the Sydney defence enough time to close him down.

Milton Rodriguez was in the thick of the action soon after as he drew a free kick from the Sydney defence. The free kick was taken quickly to Rodriguez who fired a shot at the near left post. The Sydney keeper could not handle the shot and the ball sneeked into the goal, drawing the Jets level at 2-2.

Fortune seemed to be well and truly on Newcastle’s side when Steve Corica was given a straight red by the referee for dissent. The Jets now maintained their domination but were having difficulty converting it into points.

The Jets were offered a few fantastic opportunities late in the game, and Thompson nearly had the winner when his strike on 92 minutes from just inside the penalty area crashed into the woodwork.

In the last play of the day Okon played a great ball to Carle who fired a dipping shot from the left but the Sydney keeper was just able to hang onto the ball.

The match finished 2-all. No doubt the Jets outfit will be disappointed to not have gained all 3 points but will take a lot of confidence into next weeks match against the Central Coast Mariners from the way they played today.

The travelling Squadron were delighted with the performance of their team and were seen doing a conga after the final whistle. No doubt they will have wish wished George Liolio dared to say to Rodriguez “tres goles el domingo”.
