The poor guy, how can any civilized nation subject anyone to that kind of treatment?

Would you give up your freedom in return for better home furnishings?

It's hard to have any sympathy for him, but the point of prison, and the true punishment of it, is the loss of your liberty, not the conditions of the prison cell.

Jails are not for punishment. They're places of contemplation so you'll be a better person when you're released.
With an apartment and a pension.

There are times when I have thoughts that in certain cases the death penalty might be used.
God forgive me for having evil thoughts.

To these American eyes, Breivik walking the streets someday is horrific.

Losing your liberty is a punishment

The problem with the death penalty, other than the serious issue of people being wrongly convicted, is that it stops being about justice, and becomes about revenge, which is another thing entirely.
