Goal difference matters. I'm fine with the USA piling on the goals. I want them in double-digits in every game. All the way to the final. And win that 13-0 as well.

I don't mind the goals, I mean I wouldn't order them to score left footed or pass the ball around, but jumping about and screaming as if you did something when scoring goal 13 against a U12 squad is a bit much. Act like you've been there before.

For Thailand just advancing to the WC was a win in itself. I do think that it was a little douchie from the USWNT to pile 13 goals on them, but then, the other teams in the group will try to score as many as possible, so what else are they to do?

For Mallory Pugh it was her first WC goal. She hasn't been there before. Hers was the 11th goal.

That's the problem with them having a 24-team tournament. Really, keep it at 16 (which makes a better tournament in terms of numbers). Right now, there aren't enough decent women's' teams to avoid ridiculously uncompetitive games like these.

I hope the men’s team was taking notes. Has Boys squad managed to score 13 goals over the past 24 months?

I didn't think the celebrations were overdone. It's the World Cup, scoring is a big deal.

And I didn't hear anyone saying Manchester City should have laid off after the fourth goal in the FA Cup final (they ended up with six), or that they were overly celebratory when they were burying Brighton to secure the premiership a few weeks ago. Apparently men are allowed to pile on and celebrate but it's unladylike for women.

I'd say the same thing against Man City if it put up 13 on Indy Eleven and was dancing. I'd say the same thing about the Warriors if they were high fiving when up 150-27 against NYU. I'd say the same thing about the Iggles if they pounded on Villanova 105-0 and were doing whirly birds.

C'mon...give them a break. They've been on the pitch but they haven't felt like playing yet. From what I've read in the Fan thread Pulisic is now ready to be heard from.[He's trying to switch to Croatia's NT] :p

Goal differential matters. If the opponent was Sweden or Brasil maybe. If my daughter was playing in that match against Thailand I'da gone home @ 6-0. :(

Shocking margin of victory for US, considering that opponent played eleven ties.

Funny thing about the knockout pairings though: goal difference in the US case doesn’t really matter and the US staff had to know this going in.

The team likely to finish 3rd (Chile) is 500+ elo points below them. If the US were to somehow finish 3rd due to GD, I’d say they’re not going far anyway. They’d likely meet the 4th best team in the tourney (England) in R16, but have a decent path after that.

If they finish 1st, they’d likely get #2 France in quarters. If they finish 2nd, #3 Germany in the same round. Their likely R16 opponents are roughly equal too.

Where they finish, assuming they make the knockouts, literally doesn’t matter.

The MNT should be playing more matches against national teams who have been playing soccer for a couple of weeks, I guess.

Fist pumps and high-fives are the German version of elaborate knee slides.
