Yay, we get to see Landon sit on the bench until the second half and then most likely not be able to make an impact because of the team losing and not playing in a way that effectively utilizes Landon's speed and/or the players around him not trusting him.

Up until the last game, I was very optimistic. But seeing an out-of-favor and out-of-form get the start over Landon, the poor level of play from basically everyone on the field for Bayern Munchen, and Donovan's teammates not helping/trusting him at all, I gave up. All I can hope for now is that LD impresses some other teams' scouts and gets an offer in the summer.

Yeah that was weird that they started aPodolski of all people, who is going back to said team, who hasn't played in ages!!! How motivated could he have been?

Klinsie should have come out and said, this is my horse and I'm riding him. Something makes me think:

-It would have been hugely unpopular.
-klinsie has completely lost the locker room
-situation was perfect for LD to shine, instead klinsie lost his nerve sure sign that he is feeling a huge amount of pressure and wont last much
    longer.

I haven't found it. ESPN 2 has Chelsea v. Juve
Setana has Liverpool v. Real Madrid

He probably felt pressure from the bosses to play podolski. Maybe he decided that it's best to do it right away and that if he doesn’t produce anything they won’t bother him about that for the next few weeks. Better to that against koln than in the cl.

I'm sure it's been answered somewhere....but that sure feels to me like an upper management decision asking Klinsi to put Podolski on. Just a gut thing I guess.

    Toni is probable.

Bayern are hoping for a comeback from Luca Toni, who missed the Köln clash with an inflamed Achilles tendon. “It’s looking very good. We’re confident he’ll make it,” Klinsmann reported just over 24 hours before kick-off. “I’ll do everything humanly possible to play,” promised the striker, who came through Tuesday evening's final pre-match training session at the Alvalade stadium unscathed

"Ich bin noch nicht ganz fit und habe noch geringe Schmerzen", erklärte der 31-Jährige. "Aber ich denke, es wird gehen." Muss es auch, denn der FCB hat in der Offensive neben Miroslav Klose momentan keine echte Alternative. Lukas Podolski scheint in Gedanken schon beim 1. FC Köln, wo er diesen Sommer zurückkehren wird. Und Landon Donovan kommt einfach nicht an das vom Rekordmeister geforderte Topniveau heran.

Toni says he not quite fit and still feels some pain, but thinks he'll be able to go tonight.

The authort hen says he must because the only other option in the attack at the moment is Miroslave Klose. Poldi is already thinking about Cologne and Donovan simply isn't good enough for the highest levels

Landon has looked terrible each and every time he's started a meaningful match for Bayern.

    Get it?

I get it, as long as you're including every other player who has been on the field with him.

A summary of Donovan's loan spell, in Haiku form ....

    Bayern is sub-par
    Donovan's not the problem
    Nor the solution

Hope he does well today ....... would like to see him come on with BM nursing a lead for once. Sporting pressing for an equalizer, with the game opened up.

The front office made that decision. And Klinsi wouldn't go against them.

Not only did Rummenegge say that Podolski would be in the team, he said they owed it to the German National Team to play Poldi for the rest of his time at FCB.

*Edit: Ah, I see others have answered this already. Sorry.

Wow, it's funny reading stuff like this now. Last year, people wanted to crucify everyone in the USSF for not hiring him and handing him unlimited and unchecked power ..... now he is a buffoon who can't hold Bayern's lockerroom together. You may be right, I don't know. It's just funny to see how wildly popular opinion changes, as you are not nearly the first person to start positing this. As for LD, well, I see more of the same this game. He either gets 10 minutes off the bench with orders to run around and defend a lead, or he gets 20-30 minutes off the bench with orders to score after Bayern has played like crap again.
