Good to know facts: how many of us World Cup fans here prefer Adidas, Nike or even Puma? Well not like this Article or who the Champion team will change our decision on choosing the brand, But hey Its good to know right? Its a good discussion topic, a Good Debate, so let me start this thread (i don't know how to create a poll), and maybe our feedbacks in this forum will force the Brand managers to bring in more varieties of the brand after they found out which are the favorites (who knows right? maybe they will find their way to this forum) (full image: http://bit.ly/cLGYXX ) The eyes of the world will fall on South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup as 32 countries from across the globe compete for the title of the greatest team on the planet. However there will be another competition playing out that consists of just three contenders - Adidas, Puma and Nike will all be competing to become the best represented sports wear company on the planet. "At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Puma were the best represented brand with 11 countries out of 32 wearing their jerseys, Nike was represented by eight nations and Adidas six. For Adidas in particular this was a significant defeat as the company was the World Cup's official sponsor in its own country, "Our three-stripes logo will be everywhere," said chief executive Herbert Hainer. They were, but one can't help but think he would have liked to have seen even more stripes attached to the one thing people were really watching - the players. PUMA. I have no idea why, I just decided when a little kid that they were my favorite and I never changed.
A little trivia. Adidas was created by Adi Dassler. PUMA was created by his brother, Rudolph Dassler.
Adidas. The Samba and The Superstar are the most comfortable and durable shoes ever made. Also, The Superstar is classic footwear (re: currency) in my hometown of New York City. White with black stripes Superstars. Beautiful.
For me it really depends on the release. I actually like different aspects of each company. Nike do a terrific job of viral marketing and getting their products out there. For Adidas it seems to be a little easier to lay back and let their name do all the promoting (and players!) Puma on the other hand really need to advertise more if they want to gain a larger grasp on the market - for example, the superlight V1.10 SL really wasn't advertised that much. The V1.10 SL is currently my "go to" boot by the way.
It's funny that anyone would consider Nike the equal of Adidas and Puma in this sport. Proves how long you've been a fan. Nike, for those of you that don't know, would love for you to think they know something about this sport, when they don't. Adidas and Puma are the real players in this sport. I CAN REMEMBER A TIME WHEN THERE WERE NO NIKE SOCCER CLEATS. Can you?
It wasn't decades ago. 10 years ago they were just getting into the game. Where were you? I was on the field with my Puma Kings/Adidas Copas scoring goals left and right. Nike is marketing. Nothing more. And their soccer shoes suck.

It is interesting when you read articles discussing Nike's role in world domination vs Adidas they always use football (soccer) as an example and everytime they fail to mention that Adidas also sponsors the MLB, NBA and the MLS exclusively.
NIKE are very smart. They know their marketing strategies. Starting from Michael Jordan, they always have been able to sign with the famous and popular athletes such as Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and C.R. I am not saying NIKE do not make quality football cleats; however, their popularity is somewhat more of a hype from having these popular and famous athletes. I am a NIKE guy and wear their cleats but ADIDAS and PUMA make very quality ones also. In my opinion, PUMA and ADIDAS make more comfy cleats than NIKE.
