Are you asking for volunteers? I'm game, though my knees are a bit creaky. Still, I'm eager to help out . . .
Firebirds or iron horses People talk about not forcing it...five stripes is the most forced thing I have heard. Lets just take our logo and jerseys created by a clothing company and the first thing we hear and pounce on it? Something after the first win in the snow with 6 goals scored could be cool. People would wonder how an atlanta team got a winter/snow related nickname. Or just something based off of "6" for the 6 goals scored in their first win. Our first win was a very unique game so lets use it.
They had that hammer and spike thing goin' on at yesterday's game. Do they want us to be the Hammers? The Spikes? The John Henrys? I have a scary vision of a mascot running around in a spike suit. That could be ugly. I kinda like the Little Engines. "We think we can, we think we can" is not such a bad chant. Is it?
Five stripes. I take ATLUTD will always have jerseys with five stripes, or at least the crest/badge...
As long as Adidas or whoever the manufacturer for the year is decides to design them that way. 5 stripes??? I am very disappointed. I guess it is to be expected since I can't stand the poser/lazy/cop out name United. Atlanta FC would have been much more acceptable. Lazy but acceptable. At least I don't have to shell out any money for any merchandise. I am happy about that. I am definitely not walking around with anything that says Atlanta United or Atlanta Five Stripes.
Yeah, that was kind of my point. It's a stupid nickname with a stupid reason for adopting it. We know how often companies/teams redo their uniforms...So I can't see ATLUTD, always having 5 stripes on their jerseys. The Crest/badge/logo on the other hand, I can see them keeping 5 stripes in it, but then again, teams/uniform makers, change their look, designs, etc as often as a baby changes diapers these days...
They can try to make us call them that, but we don't have to give in. I will continue to call them the Gyrating Seat Otter Dental Hygienists
So who came up with this? Adidas? It was out before Heath used it. I found it referenced in this article from 3/5/17. The way you worded your post I assumed Heath is the one that made it up on the spot or something. http://www.11alive.com/sports/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-atlanta-united/419827137 "8. Nickname is still being decided Looking for a team name? Atlanta United officially does not have one. The unofficial nickname of the team is The Five Stripes. The team's home kits (or jerseys) have five stripes on them that represent the pillars of character: Unity, Determination, Community, Excellence and Innovation. The black stripes are a nod to Atlanta's history as a railroad town. However, the team said on Friday that it still does not officially have a nickname, and Atlanta United hope one is created by the fans." Atlanta United (which means 1) Five Stripes. It just doesn't work guys. Atlanta Five is better than Five Stripes, IMO. Five Rails? or just Rails? Atlanta Rails...I could deal with that.
I just like the Express. It says it all: railroad iconography, history, our style of play which is fireball fast and runs through these bitches like a runaway train.
I am not saying it is good or bad, but Five Stripes seems to have already caught on with the local media and the Twitter hashtag crowd. May be hard to put that Genie back in the bottle now. May need to embrace it?
Especially when so many better options have been provided. I understand you can't please everyone, but this team is just trying to come up with the laziest poser-est names possible. United and Five Stripes? Wow! Somebody is trying very hard. Someone has already updated the Wiki page for Atlanta United to state five stripes is the nickname. I am going to edit it and say "unofficial"
