With the initials AU and the color Gold being a primary color for our team... I imagine it needs to be Gold something??? Golden Boys ???? Definitely has a southern and unique feel to it.
I'm with Prime on this one, especially since gold is only the tertiary color. Too close to Golden Balls, as well. Since we "stole" United from DC, why don't we go ahead and take The RedBlacks from Ottawa's CFL franchise, too! To be honest, I'm not feeling anything nickname-wise right now and don't want to force it. We could pull from the list of names offered up before inheriting the United moniker, but for now I rather like the idea of leaving it as is.
Couldn't help myself... If we're going down this route then what about the alleged bird theme to match the Hawks and Falcons? Firebirds? Kestrels?
Sticking with the gold theme... We could go with: Gold Knights With the Knights being a tribute to "Uncle Arthur". #AUKnights #GoldKnights #ATLgoldknights #AUgoldknights #AUFCgoldknights #ATLUTDgoldknights
Only problem is that they didn't include the Phoenix in the crest... Which makes it somewhat of a stretch unless the ownership more aggressively pushes the Phoenix theme. I like the idea of Gold Knights as the AU standing for the Gold, which also looks to be our most stand out color, and Knights as a tribute to ole Uncle Arthur.
Like they've done for FC Dallas, Toronto FC, and Real Salt Lake? Point is that nicknames don't ever develop in America unless they're somewhat forced... And this whole website is a bunch of geeks sitting around brainstorming.
Sorry, that was tongue-in-cheek. But also not really. I think a bird nickname would make sense, as that seems to be the way for Atlanta pro sports teams. We could come up with a nickname dependent on the jerseys, similar to Liverpool, Chicago, Inter Milan, Argentina, etc.
That's why I'm figuring it might be something "Gold". The Golds seems lacking... You can easily attach something to the end of it to make it work, like Gold Knights, or something similar. Has a Manchester United, Red Devils type feel to it. Which pays tribute to both the most noticeable color of the team and also a tribute to "Uncle Arthur".
It's ok. I like Gold Knights better though as a nickname. What about Gold/Golden Chiefs? (Still like Gold Knights better though) I like Golden Phoenix too Not using the color Gold, Black Harts would still be fitting... It just seems to be normal to include something with the colors in the nickname... Unless there's an obvious design that alludes to sown thing, like: Lions for Orlando and Loons for Minnesota.
Just a friendly reminder... I'm such the Dark Clouds would be more than happy to...help...you with the nickname thing.
Yeah. We actually have a strong commercial forestry industry in GA, albeit mostly pine and mostly swooped up by modest machines. But I digress.
Damn pines. They shed needles and cones all year and aren't really suitable for treehouses, meaning I did a lot of work as a child for absolutely no reward. Nickname suggestions: The Blackbirds (if they wear mostly black). We can all sing Walking In Rhythm at some point during the match... The Famous Feathers of Football Fortune (Truth told, "Famous Feathers of Soccer Fortune" doesn't roll off the tongue quite the same way)... The Team Too Successful To Hate Da Perry Meters The Blax Handles The Chattahoochee Floaters The Red Flight The Chattanoogans (in honor of our inevitable relocation farther north) And if we ever get into a losing streak, opponents fans will sing, "and this game you cannot wiiiii-hinn... and this game you cannot wiiiii-hinn... Lawwwwd knows y'all cain't wi-yih-yih-yih-yiinnnnnn..."
Freebird? Great running gag, as long as that's all it is. Otherwise waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too redneck to be associated with this team, I say/hope.
