Nicholas “Niko” Gioacchini, a U.S. born soccer player has signed a two-year contract with League 1 French team, SM CAEN.

Gioacchini, a Kansas City, Missouri native will begin this fall as the striker for the team’s reserve group as he aims to work his way up to the first team.

The 17-year-old has been living in Paris for the past three years. He currently plays for Paris Football Club, a League 2 team in France. Gioacchini has been the team’s starting striker for those two years, first with the U17 Nationaux and this year with the U19 Nationaux. In the two seasons he has played in over 50 games and has scored almost 40 goals.

According to Soccerway, he's playing for Caen II, despite remaining eligible for their U19s, and scored in his first match. So he jumped from the U19s of a Ligue 2 side to the reserves of a Ligue 1 side. One to watch.

Nifty little goal. Looks like the defender got a slight little touch on the ball or at the very least provided a little shield of sorts and Niko had to adjust his feet to slot the ball home to the far post. First career goal. First career Team of the Week. Not bad for the kid.

Any info on whether he wants to represent USA? He's age eligible for the Olympic team.

Just watched his performance vs US Orleans and I like him. Good in the air. Looks fast and he's always moving off the ball. Strong enough to hold off a centerback, bring the ball down and find someone's feet. Doesn't look insanely goal dangerous and his passing vision/technique don't look particularly special, but he's a bright, effective No. 9 in the French second division right now and he doesn't turn 20 until July. I'm definitely paying attention. Would love to see him get a U23 call-up.

Not sure, tbh. Based on Transfermarkt market values, Ligue 2 is a step down from 2.Bundesliga. But then again, on average, market values by that measure put 2.Bundesliga basically on par with MLS.

This is a 7th-round Coupe de France match against ASI Murs-Erigne from the 7th division (Division Régionale Supérieure), who qualified through the Pays de la Loire regional qualifiers.

Gioacchini scored the second goal and drew the penalty for the third. It's 3-0 in the 18th minute.
