And you would actually be getting more value for your money buying Fruity Pebbles. The profit margin in Herbalife products was astronomical back in the day. And if you believe Bill Ackman, it still might be.

The vid froze on me at this great moment in time. We have Omar and Becks hugging while Magee's beautiful and smartly dressed daughter looks on with rapt interest. In the near background are the supporting characters - Stephens, Birchall's son & someone I don't recognize looking right at the camera (Kirovski?). But - like at the beginning of any dark thriller - all is not light and happiness. Because behind it all is an ominous threat lurking, just waiting for his moment to spoil it all!

I think the free agency issue might be a growing divide. If you take the union seriously then I don't see what other option they have unless MLS meets them halfway.

Oh I understand that but most stuff from players have been on the mantra of time to pay the players that built the league. I'm glad that he did say that. CBA talk is going to start getting real

It makes sense the players would go harder for free agency than almost any other concession. Additional DP's and higher salary caps are appealing to us fans because those issues will improve the product on the field. But those won't always benefit, and may actually hurt, some of the current players. More DP's will mean mostly means new stars coming in and taking jobs away from current rosters. Re raising the salary cap: that will help some of the current players because it will make it more feasible to get regular raises and still stay with your original team. But it will also hurt some players, especially the marginal players who - sad to say - are often US born and raised. A higher salary cap means teams can afford to replace their lower priced players with new shiny and more skilled and more expensive imports.

But free agency helps pretty much every current player. It should add significantly to their leverage when negotiating new salaries. It is also the one thing the owners will likely fight to the death. Bidding against each other is something they really, really want to avoid. They've seen where that can end up - they just have to look at the most recent MLB free agent contracts.

    Could get ugly I guess.

Yes but we compete in a global market, so MLS is a unique situation. MLS already competes on salaries, only difference now will be they will have to fend for themselves, which I think is good for everyone.

Well, the CBA is not really a factor there as it only governs the MLS rights issue. A player out of contract in MLS may not be able to pit one MLS team against another (under the current structure), but if he has a real market value (that MLS is not meeting) he can deal with teams in any other league. I think some of these guys might get a rude awakening when they try to market themselves on the open international market.

There are a lot of barriers to US players plying their trade outside the US. That's one thing that undermines the competitiveness of MLS salaries (and on a side note... JK's agenda of getting all US players playing in Europe).

WTH is going on hear? Omar Gonzalez has become the fulcrum of CBA discussion!

Sacha and CBA. that's all we are thinking about these days

speaking of which, could we be holding back officially signing Sacha until the CBA is dusted? Perhaps there is another DP we have our sights on that we want to know if we can get the 4th slot first? i dunno, trying to make sense of this fiasco
