DirecTV subscriber here. The match feeds are always zoomed in and grainy. Not that I don't like a close up of Dave Johnson, but does anyone else notice this? Guessing I need to email News Channel 8 and harass them about their feed?
I'm also on DirecTV. Some carriers apparently have News Channel 8 in HD and those viewers haven't complained; but DirecTV is one of those carriers that do not have News Channel 8 in HD, and it's been bad for people who do not. Since DCU went to News Channel 8, after one attempt, I haven't watched a single second of a live telecast of DCU for this reason.
The video quality is fine on Cox in both regular and hi res. In fact it far exceeds the quality of the play. I prefer my bad dreams and United games in softer, kinder focus
Why is there any logical reasoning for not broadcasting the HD feed? This is a bit mind boggling. It's ok though, I can just pay $80 for a year's worth of MLS Live to be able to watch my beloved United in HD......wrong......
For DirecTV not broadcasting the HD feed? Because it'd take bandwidth on the satellite that'd otherwise be used for some other HD channel, AND they'd have to pay NewsChannel 8 for the feed, and they made the decision that it's not worth it for them.
I have no idea why DCU/MLS cannot get DirecTV to put the games on an alternative feed just for the games. Comcast used to do that with Comcast+ back in the day. It's a money thing obviously. I asked Tom Hunt about it once and he promised to get back to me with an answer... Still waiting. Meanwhile I have MLSLive and use a VPN to get the games. NC8 on DirecTV is unwatchable. It's "upconverted" HD. Blech!
CSN+ is an actual channel just like MASN2 now. It doesn't have programming most of the time, but it's a separate network. Likewise, + stations have regular programming that pays. There is a FiOS1 too.
On the rare occasion the Direct Kick package uses the DC United feed on DirecTV, it's in HD on channels 461-up. Thx, Jay!
BTW, Goff says: "Channel 7, club insists. Part of their contract with the station." (https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...s-weekend-19/?utm_term=.08dcb0ae232e#comments) I'm not convinced, but it would be nice.
DirecTV's DK starts with 471, but I take your point. However, when NC8 is broadcasting, the DK feed is usually blacked out.
For Directv viewers, another channel showing the game tomorrow is 631 YES network Yankee TV, it will be HD.
MLSoccer.com lists the match on ABC 7. Interestingly, the NE vs. Orlando match today has been postponed because of extreme cold. It won't be much warmer tomorrow in NYC.
It will be on NC8. I believe they were expecting snow too. The unimas game in minutes will be from RBA.
I looked on the cable guide for FIOS and it is being shown as 2:00 PM Sunday on Channels 8 (SD) and 508 (HD).* *Whether or not channel 508 is actually HD remains to be seen. It's supposed to be, but it didn't look like it last year.
I've never had HD issues with 508 on fios like people have with satellite. I still haven't looked at my recording of last week though.
BTW the more I think about DirecTV's NC8 picture I realize that it appears to be a standard def 4:3 picture that has been stretched to 16:9 and THEN center cut, which is why the score banner is cut off. It is a f*cked up mess.
Sadly, I hardly follow the team any longer due to the broadcast change and the unwatchable train wreck on DirecTV. I also cancelled Direct Kick this year after having it for 20 years. DCU home and away games used to not be blacked out - was funny to listen to the Revs crew back in the day, the ultimate homers.
I'm in VA beach, so I get the games OTA, which I used to prefer to MLS Live, because then I don't have to listen to the Sporks anouncers talk about a DC handball that was as ball-to-hand for 10 minutes straight, while trying to watch the last home-opener in RFK stadium. I kind of wondered about that. Why would they use that broadcast, when the game had significantly more meaning to DC fans? It just didn't add up. That was until I watched the NYCFC game, OTA. This is the point at which I'm conflicted about insulting people. I'm sure producing a broadcast is a vastly complex thing, but I feel like lots of organizations do it successfully, including colleges and universities. I kinda figured after having a season to work on it, they'd be familiar with the problems and, you know, have solved some of them. I will be watching the next game on MLS Live.
