Machado is singlehandedly trying to sabotage this game

His degradation as a player has been very swift, especially in a World Cup year. He made that squad based on his 2017, not his 2017 form. Same thing happened to Brad Davis, he fell off a cliff after WC 2014 but was fading before that

Lundquist - why did they pick him up? Especially when centerback play was so poor?
    Why why why why why

When your season effectively ends before Labor Day, it’s not a good season. Pretty much 3 of last 5 years it has ended this early

i know its a small sample size, but I'm liking what i see from Pena. His ability to pull the ball out of the air and it not fly 5 yrds away, his ability to shied the ball with out falling to the floor and his ability to put a shot on frame is all encouraging. throw in his age and size, and i'm hopeful we can finally have a forward that can cause opposing CBs to have to actually work.

Bruinotas can stay on the bench IMO until he learns at least one more skill.

Not to mention that Greek Tragedies are self inflicted. We're just incompetence given human form.

Manotas doesn't seem as suited for the #9 spot and is more like a winger. Parker just bodied him off of like 3 or 4 good chances in or around the box. Not sure if a smaller striker is able to draw a foul easier than Mauro - I think due to being a taller player he isn't going to get the calls so he tries to stay up and then just loses the ball.

Either he needs to get stronger and shrug off the challenges and get that goal scoring opportunity or he needs to learn how to sell it and go with the dive and get the FK or PK.

How many guys were on the pitch for NYRB that were 18-21 from the their youth setup... they all looked good! We have guys from Football Countries that look like YMCA players!

If they don't nuke out Defense at the end of the year, I don't know if anyone is even running this team. There isn't one guy I can see deserves to stay on this team from the defensive aspect... not even as a back up.

Lundi and Fuenmayor, I can see staying because both are new to the team and the MLS. Doesn't excuse being shit though. Wenger has been decent at RB and Lundi is slightly better than Beasley.

I don't mind that. The game last night was meaningless for us. We have 0% chance of making the playoffs.

Wenger can be pretty good as a right back. Fuenmayor is maybe our best all around CB (not saying much).

Unless Lundqvuist was free - they paid too much. It was telling that they attacked him vs Garcia on the other side last night. I would keep Beasely another year over Lundi if he's cheaper. Spend the money instead on a star centerback and a true star #10. This is where all rot starts.

I don’t get the Manotas hate. He’s been more consistent than Elis or Quioto this season. Not that he’s a world beater or anything. He definitely has flaws but so does every player on this team. Many have more glaring flaws than him.

Mhmm. This is like one of those Saw, Purge, or The Strangers kind of movies. "Torture porn." No redeeming values.

Lundkvist is very good at certain things but not others. Unless you intend to convert him, he should have been quickly given the ticket back home from the Kinnear Fund For Wayward Foreign Rubbish.

In plain English, play him as a mid or forward for the crossing, or mutually tear up and let him go back to Sweden. It shouldn't have taken more than a game or two to assess he can't defend.

We are odd in how post Kinnear we have become sentimental despite playing on a beer budget and "loan-to-buying" so much of the roster. There are so many contracts that shouldn't have been reupped, hurt players carried all year, disappointing players carried, no more trades.

Meh. The one thing about the Barrett part of 2016 was they started getting regular results and playing like they cared. This is trending in the other direction.

This is why I have been saying start throwing staff overboard, make some personnel moves, act like you care. It sends a message to fans who buy tickets and it also starts creating a spirit for next season.

In particular I don't like how the season is quickly reducing down to basically 1 game. Not sure how we expect to win it playing like this every week.

The deal on Pena is I think we'd need to go back to a 442 because he's in the Ching mold. Balls to feet. You can't lead him to space nor is he even really the athletic type to get downfield as a central striker on a fast counter with the Hondurans.

I have suggested taking this back to a 442 to get better players on the field together. Elis and Pena up top, Quioto and Lundkvist wide. Less journeyman mid rubbish and we get out of the 433 dead end we're parked in.

They need to clear house on the rubbish mids. All this, well but Memo, or Bird, or whatever......it's all rubbish. We have a big pile of mediocre to bad mids with like 1 productive point all season. As in, 1 goal or assist. That cannot stand. I don't care if you're Memo and supposed to be promising, either produce or hit the bricks.

More pointedly, I see a key problem here as continuity for continuity's sake. Am I the only one who remembers they were actually surprised 2017 happens. At face value that suggests they did not actually rate that team. How then do you not upgrade for 2018, no matter how it turned out. I can't begin to explain how absurd it is to be like surprised 2017 makes the playoffs then make the decision to more or less stand pat.

Particularly if we are going to be a low payroll team we have to be premised on permanent upgrading. I mean isn't that the whole moneyball theory is if I won't pay the payroll I need to be constantly seeking more value for the money.

The first Saw and Purge movies were most certainly not torture porn. Quite the opposite actually. Now their sequels however....and even still, I'd say Saw 2 and 3 weren't horrible as far as horror sequels go.

Garcia and Bird looked solid though unexceptional (which might be taken as a slap against the coach, because there are several players getting time at their positions who don't look competent). You can run out Watts and Machado week after week but Garcia can't get regular time? Ceren, Alexander, etc. struggling but Bird isn't getting as much time?

And then Alvarez yet again this week.

My general impression is reaching what games is this coach watching.

Riffing on the "Garcia" thing from last night, I think part of what Cabrera has tried to sell is a supposed eye for talent, the Kinnear idea. But that shouldn't be just oh you ought to sign Elis, it should be, Garcia looks better than Watts. I know we frame a lot of the Cabrera discussion as about subs, but to me it's like if I step back and look at lineups he does, it's how on earth are you thinking x is better than y? All over the field. I don't know if he's clueless or if it's politics about personalities, but it doesn't feel like he ever sits down and accurately diagnoses, ok, these are the ones who can play. These are the ones who could maybe sub productively.

Related point, despite the rest of the league catching on to the 433, the only tactical detour has been occasional road 532s. He's not moving his formation around or getting his good players in different spots on the field where they can produce. No let's keep sending Elis into the corner against double teams and defenses that sit back.

I also think "someone" (not sure if it is HC or GM decision anymore) departs from Early Kinnear in the sense of being willing to cut bait. Back in the day if we made personnel errors they would be corrected in a few weeks, much less they'd see out that season or maybe even another. Lundkvist, used like he is, is like Koke. But he's getting a Landin stint. You don't need more time to sort that one. Either you have another use for him, or he's gone, at that contract.

Kind of underlining it wasn't their A team either.
