Say it ain't so Joe! Does look like Barca circa 2000. Our jersey that we beat Mexico in, at a World Cup no less, perhaps after winning that game if there was a template to go on moving forward than that was it. We beat Argentina 3-0 at Copa America Uruguay'95 in our old 90's road blues and whenever I wear that some latino will come up to me and mention that game. Just stick to that template for a road kit. Red 3rd can be used now and then. Like when we play Ghana.
How can such a big company, whose job it is to design good-looking products, come up with that piece of sh*t? Absolutely awful.
Apparently, Nike does a survey of what fans want in a jersey. They then pick the least favorite idea and try to shovel it down our throats.
No they don't. Umbro was recently owned by Nike (Nike stripped them of their big tickets like Man City and English National Team) who then sold them to the company that brings you, among other things Joe Boxer, London Fog, Mossimo and Starter.
I bought the most recent blue jersey, and it has already become workout gear. It's atrocious. Regret. The bomb-pops are at least awful in a funny way. But really, Nike is producing garbage for the USA at the moment.
Nike. Consistently driven by not caring about soccer culture & tradition...they have to be on the cutting edge, as defined by themselves...insidious, insipid and infuriating to those of us who have been around the game longer than they have. They've made adidas blink more than once since buying their way into the national teams' market. As in: Germany's (to be fair, West Germany) famed green away kit is no longer, so the entire lore of having to borrow Ireland's jerseys is lost upon millions of next generation fans. El Tri, Mexico's iconic green, white and red home kits are now el dos...black and neon green...huh? Nike has bought it's way to its prominent position in global soccer. There was no historic alliance or prior allegiance to supporting any particular team. Totally profit driven. Now we have the annual dog and pony show that is marketing at its best/worst for every team in the world. And, we, the suckers, are to blame for buying into every kit reincarnation. Just say no.
That's not true. They haven't screwed with England's Whites and Reds. They haven't screwed with Brazil's Yellows or Blues. The haven't screwed with Dutch Orange. They did screw with France and actually made them better. Seems the US and Portugal is Nike's experiment lab.
And that's precisely what Nike has done, yet it no longer angers me because I now consider the whole thing a long running joke...on us.
it's not just the style, the quality is poor. I have cosmos' gear from way back, still in good condition. At some point I will make my own US jersey using a rash guard.
I remember Starter! Most badass brand around when I was in elementary school. That and Fila. U.S. should switch to one of those two and we would win Copa America easily.
Nothing is uglier than the monotone NFL uniforms, especially the pants without the stripes. Well, until the new US away jersey was introduced
