Pablo SD addressed this nicely in his post above.
So, out of those half of countries whose crests do not have soccer balls, in how many of them is soccer the most popular sport? It is sort of an honest question (I'm too lazy tonight to look it up), but I think you get my point.
Perhaps NEEDS in capital letters is too strong an emphasis. If a country supports soccer with the kind of attention the NFL or college pointyball gets here, then it probably doesn't matter. That's not the case in the USA. So, unless the average American on the street knows that the crest represents US Soccer, then yes, I think our crest needs a soccer ball on it.

    Exhibit A.

Well, maybe. Would people know, or be smart enough to figure out, what USSF stands for?
I guess I would argue that the crest shoud have both USSF and a soccer ball on it at this point in time, and in a future iteration, just USSF would probably suffice.

At least it would make them pause to think about it. As it is now it looks like a generic Olympic team logo or something. I don't think it has to include an entire soccer ball though. You might be able to incorporate just the pattern of the ball into part of the crest or something and still look classy.

yeah I agree too. USSF would have worked for me more than just USA. Even though at the moment even typing "USSF" makes me sort of nauseous.

Home shirt looks boring to me, and idk what they're doing with the pattern on the away shirt. Get the feeling they'll look better with names/numbers and when we actually see them on the pitch

neither is fantastic, both far, FAR better than the current set. itd be cool if we could stop with the royal blue, but at least these are mostly our colors and we wont look like russia. hopefully white/navy/white and all navy.

decent home kit, if paired with navy shorts.

ugly and unnecessary lighter blue splosh pattern on the away though. less would have been more.

still dislike the generic new fed badge.

The hell is that away kit? Is that a reference to how the current USMNT makes us want to vomit?

As for the home, as long as we have a plain white one then ones like these where there are clear red and blue stripes/piping along the edges are appreciated. I hated the 2014 whites that just looked like blank polos.

Not actively offensive, but boring as hell. The Nike x2 logo is awful.

This. Swoosh looks good. Adding "Nike" absolutely ruins it.

    This would have looked better.
On the actual blue jersey I can’t decide if that splotch is like a raw egg or an oil slick.

As for the white one.............oops, sorry; I fell asleep looking at it.
    Adjustments.JPG
It doesn’t look that much different than the current women’s one. Lazy!

I completely agree. As if the swoosh doesn’t identify it as from Nike. WTF?

It’s really too bad they didn’t carry forward with a white shirt with prominent red stripes (like the ones we have, but without the blue part). That makes for a distinctive, identifiably “American” look.
    A shame.

red/blue on sleeves? check. red/blue on weirdo "lightning" side stripes (all nike intl kits are using)? check.

neck? blue, and then red and white stripes at the back.

    thats my nitpicking review.

UPDATE: If Uly wears the new blue one it is “appropriately esoteric.”

White one is beautiful. I know many want a signature look but I always thought we had it with the clean, simple looks like this one. And the Nike script is retro cool.

Too much plain white and it looks like the entire team is in their underwear.

The white is clean and austere, how a national team jersey should look.

I'm glad that they went with navy for the change strip, but, or course, they overcooked it.

Now let's see if we can stick with the concepts - I'm not against adding a red/white third strip - affect a timeless feel, and create some identity.
