USL going all anglophile .... It will now be called USL championship . USL3 will now be League 1 and PDL will be called League 2. Who wants to wager Chicago Municipal will be playing in the USL Premier league summer of 2023?
Ughh! That is just pathetic. Admittedly, USL and PDL are stupid names, but "Championship" (for the second division) is just idiotic. It is NOT a championship. It serves as the champion of nothing (other than the pathetic minor-league itself). Calling the third tier "League 1" is just idiotic. Etc. I could not stand it when they did it in England and I can not stand it now.
How hard would it have been to do: -USL 1st Division -USL 2nd Division -USL 3rd Division Oh well, I guess the anglophiles will be happy. I’ll be happy to be a fan of a Chicago team in the city and not owned by hauptman.
That would be just fine, thank you. No, no, no. I am an Anglophile, and I am not happy. This is stupid, idiotic and nonsensical. I fail to see how anybody could be happy with this crap. Well, there is that to look forward to in the near future.
If we're going to rip off other countries' bad traditions, I suggest they rename each division J-1 thru J-3 and expansion teams should pick up names like Antlers, Red Diamonds and S-Pulse.
Everytime nimrod has one of his inane press conferences to spout off a bunch of BS, I will bump this thread. Any news here? What we know so far: -Owner is Ricketts -Trying to build stadium in Lincoln Yards (nothing has been approved yet) -Most likely team will be called Municipal with the municipal device being part of the team crest -Supposedly going to be part of the 2020 USL season (I’ll believe it when I see it)
USL final tonight on ESPN2. Without watching either team, I bet either of them give the Fire trouble. Maybe we’ll get to see a certain new Chicago soccer team in a final in the next few years...
Along with the hype surrounding this USL final and how horrendous the Fire are/have been for a while now, and I see absolutley zero reason for optimism going forward, Im really looking forward to this new Chicago USL team!
last night, during halftime of the usl final, they had the commissioner on. whenever he mentioned the chicago team- which was only, like, twice, but still- he made it a point to call it "downtown chicago." when the team comes in, it looks like they are really going to push that aspect of it, which is smart, obviously.
Totally wiped that from my memory. Decided to forget about the Open Cup run after we failed “on our focused mission” on the cup over the league (look how that panned out). My blood pressure thanks me though.
4-0. Katai was Ronaldo in that game. The only game I attended this year. Had season tickets for ten years running. Quote the Raven...
With Chicago losing the Amazon HQ2 sweepstakes, do you guys think this will affect the progress of the team? As I recall, the projects were going somewhat parallel.
As they should. Marketing the team as "downtown Chicago" or "the team from the city of Chicago" is the only way to go. By now I'd say the majority of people who know about the Fire, know that the team is located literally in another city, and what feels like hundreds of miles away trying to get over there.
I think they knew HQ2 wasn't happening here, but I think that the rest of that development still has the funding and the permits. So it should still be happening.
An article in the Sunday Tribune about the failed Amazon HQ2, on Lincoln Yards site. There's this: Developer Sterling Bay is set to make it's second public presentation on the project November 29th. as it seeks zoning approval from the city. Could this be about the stadium?
From my source within the Lincoln Yards project, they might not be building the stadium there since Amazon 2 is not coming to town. They are considering building a stadium in Rosemont.
