I'm just curious, but does this "Betty's" have anything to do with the place of the same name which used to be on High Street in the Short North? http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/local/2014/07/07/bettys-short-north-closing.html I guess not??
Parking is one thing, traffic is another. I just don't see the Brewery District being able to handle getting people in and out.
Not trolling here, just curious. Based on a skim of the discussion here, most of you seem to think a new stadium is likely? Is that a fair reading? Thanks
Just my personal opinion, but I have serious doubts, at least in the near future. Nationwide arena (NHL) is doing poorly financially, so anything will likely have to be financed by Precourt himself. He seems to have respect and perhaps even envy for the newer stadiums, particularly in KC and Santa Clara, so I don't doubt that he's motivated. Overall, I quite like the stadium where it is, personally, and would be content to be playing there for another 100 years. That being said, a brand new stadium would be pretty cool.
I think a new stadium or a massively overhauled Mapfre is inevitable because we want to modernize. How it will pan out, nobody can know for sure since we have no idea what kind of money that ownership is working with or where they would build. But they sent out a good survey asking everything you could imagine about a hypothetical stadium, so theyre just in the research stages right now. I dont think I would go as far as saying a new stadium is likely yet.....I would say its a pretty decent possibility.
Obetz announces new 6500 seat stadium next door to Crew training facility. The stadium is designed for rugby/lacrosse. Is this a hint towards a USL team? Do we even want a USL team in Columbus?
going in where Columbus Motor Speedway was at. http://www.bizjournals.com/columbus...ding-6-500-seat-sports-and-concert-venue.html
I don't think Columbus has it for two "same-sport" teams. Granted, the Stars were mismanaged from the start, but I keep my pessimism on a USL team succeeding.
There would be no point in the Crew building a stadium for a USL affiliate unless were setting up an independent team in another city like Philadelphia did with Bethlehem Steel or just do a Houston/RGV type of partnership with an independent team. MLS 2 teams barely attract a crowd. My guess is it doesnt have anything to do with us.
Would a stadium work in Franklinton between Broad & Town and Belle St and the tracks? It seems like you could just barely cram it in there, width-wise. Or are there already plans for that area?
The area between COSI and the tracks is owned by the city (actually, it all is from the tracks to the river). COSI uses a lot of it for various parking purposes, but the city is planning on developing it into various sorts of "who-knows-what." The two parking lots immediately west of COSI have been torn up and will be built into an underground parking garage with green space on top. So no. Not an option. I do admit that pre-gaming at Land-Grant or Rehab would be fun.
https://www.bizjournals.com/columbu...acre-arena-district-resort-style.html?ana=twt Well it looks like the best spot for a new stadium is now off the table.
If reddit is to be believed we still might be in business. It looks like the proposed site for this complex is on the other side of the railroad tracks closer to Goodale. https://www.reddit.com/r/Columbus/comments/6sgneb/23acre_arena_district_resortstyle_community/
I noticed from the Dispatch graphic that the site being used would really not have been that great for a stadium. Hard to wedge one in there.
I think people were originally thinking the spot in blue for the stadium. If so, still ok since the new apartments are going in in the red spot. I (crappily) overlayed a to scale replica of Mapfre to show its more than reasonable in size. So go ahead and put a down payment on those apartments ... though they will have to put up a pedestrian bridge over those tracks for most Ultraz.
