LOL. Unlikely, we've needed new turf since the days of BR. The pipes are likely both for irrigation and heating. In order to keep the grass from going dormant they need to water over winter. Then in order to keep the water (and grass) from freezing, they need to keep it warm.
I always think the green turf is best. hopefully we've ordered some of that. was going to say the same thing.
I meant the sort of grass that termines how far the ball bounces etc. The turf at Camp Nous is different to the one in Bernabeau and for obvious reasons
I just had a flashback -- the bogs in the Kop stank almost as bad as the ones in Lime St station, which were the worst anywhere in the civilized world.

Also, pitches are a high tech affair these days. They incorporate artificial fibers along with natural grass to make sure the grass roots have something more to hold onto, and to give a more regular surface.
Apparently the new pitch will be the first in the country to use a ‘Permavoid’ system which speeds up drainage.
Boy, hard to see how they have that turf ready by July 19 for the first preseason home game. Typically takes 30-45 days post-germination to get a decent lawn. If they are weaving in artificial turf like before, they are going to have to grow from seed (unless there is some cool new technology that'll do this with sod as well). I imagine the greenskeepers are praying for good weather this summer!
Ah nevermind. Just realized that (home) game against Crystal Palace is in Asia. First real home game is Aug 5, still probably doable... but still seems to be be cutting it really close!
but they should cut it close, to make the ball move faster across the surface. (god I'm bored ..... hurry up and sign another big name, jurgen! )
