Sooooo . . . with last night's snow in the high country, should we just hibernate a couple months now on the new coach thread, because the RFO's Excellent Ski Adventure is well underway?
With the "new regime" in charge, I have had high hopes. Watching how the coaching search is going (or not-going, who would know given all the info), I am beginning to wonder if we really have turned a corner or if things are the same in the RFO. Figure we better have a *good* coach announcement soon or I will have lost the excitement that had built up. Followed by some solid player rumors/signings. rod.
I said I'd give them until Thanksgiving. Well the turkey is defrosting and there's no coach announcement on the horizon...
This organization has no clue how to keep momentum going with the fans. They got my attention when Smith shared his vision of where we were going with coaching and players. Then nothing...no player news, no coach, nothing. We are somewhere close to 2-1/2 months from champions league play and we are no better off than when we ended the season.
I said months ago that the coaching hire would set the tone for the off-season and 2018. They're setting a tone alright...
This is about how I feel. Smith has articulated a vision and seems to have the will knowledge pull it off. But there is a lot of static time - at least publicly. Not even some good rumors concerning the coaching search. Yup - on that says the fans aren't important to keep involved.
Based off the articles about Hudson, I'm seeing it this way: -Rapids want Hudson, NZ wants him as well -he or his agent are playing them against each other, and/or Hudson chose to not even have any real contract discussions until the Peru matches were done (at least, that's what he has said publicly) so that process only started last week or -the Hudson links were another false rumor or RFO dreaming and we're back to the organization can't tie their own shoes, let alone do anything meaningful. I'm still being positive and leaning towards the first scenario and thinking we're in a contest with the all whites. Hopefully we have a decent alternate lined up in case we lose, but that might be too much positivity.
3rd, and the one I'm hoping for, the Rapids and Hudson have a verbal agreement and Hudson told the NZ FA this week.
I'm sceptical on that one just because it sounds like he's told NZ he's willing to discuss the option. That could be the head of NZ soccer blowing hot air, but we've seen the Rapids think they've got something done only to have it all fall apart on them before.
I think we're getting money whipped again. ::WHIP CRACK:: Oscar goes to Dallas ::WHIP CRACK:: Hudson stays with New Zealand. All probably for about the average salary, which we all know is waaay about KSE's price.
My sources have told me a similar story to the rumor that they actually have an agreement with the new coach and have been working with him over the past several weeks. Apparently he has had input on the Blomberg signing as well as several other signings that will be announced in the coming weeks. It sounds like a lot of announcements will be getting rolled out during the first week of December. Assuming what I have been told is true, I have no early idea why they are doing things this way. It's extremely irritating to the supporters.
My guess is it all gets down to PR cycles. Once last Thursday hit, it wouldn't make sense to release the coach signing as it would get buried in the media. Next Monday/Tuesday would make sense from a PR perspective. Hate it, for sure, but I guess it makes a little sense. No announcement by mid-next week and I will be very cranky. rod.
IDK, announcement of a new coach along with a few new roster changes all at once, couple weeks late maybe. Sounds like some measurable change all at once. Depending on exactly what the moves are, I am currently OK with that scenario.
I think that the RFO has already been irritated with premature leaks, like the drawn out Tim Howard thing, the Pablo as coach thing, the Oscar soap opera, etc. so they arer trying to 'manage' the PR side properly. Avoid holidays, Cyber Monday, Football days, etc. and look for slow news days to get more impact.
IF this is the case it means that the Rapids are following the "Pádraig Way." Have the technical director and head coach on the same page. Get the players that have a high "soccer IQ," etc. It's worth the wait if they've found a good coach and have better players lined up to sign.
NEWS | Anthony Hudson’s time as head coach of the #AllWhites has come to an end. https://t.co/Vc9a1GozVu pic.twitter.com/vZm5FY0rr8— New Zealand Football 🇳🇿 (@NZ_Football) November 22, 2017 Spoke little too soon, Hudson resigns as national team manager of New Zealand. New Zealand Football Chief Executive Andy Martin said Hudson should be proud of the work he has done with the national team and has left his own chapter in All Whites’ history. “We are disappointed to lose a top coach like Anthony, but we understand his decision and we wish him all the very best in his future endeavours,” said Martin. “Anthony has been one of the finest coaches New Zealand Football has ever had. You only have to look at how far the team has come since the last Intercontinental Playoff against Mexico to see the progress of this side. For the first time in history this year we were able to name a fully professional squad and that is testament to the work Anthony has done. “He has turned our team into a side which is capable of beating the world’s best and he has implemented structures within our High Performance pathway which will ensure this All Whites team will continue to develop and enjoy further success in international football.”
"Meet the new boss-same as the old boss". Kroenkes' still own the franchise. Nothing will change. Happy Thanksgiving one & all.
Would you now say wheels are in motion Jason or have you not seen enough yet to put your mind at ease? I'm honestly asking
