I can't answer this, but trust me that you're not the only one who's wondered the very same thing.

Yeah I saw him initially on the pitch in a few games, then I never did anymore. I know he lives in LA but also goes to Germany often. I guess he didn't want to travel so that's when he got Andreas Herzog as his assistant coach.

Dooley was one of those who "auditioned" for an assistant coaching position, coached a few games, but ultimately was not selected as a permanent coach.

Oh wow. I thought he and Jurgen (having German ties and both living in LA) were close to one another.....oh well, thanks for the info.

IIRC he was only with the team for the first Mexico match.

Say what you will about Klinsmann, but he's such a positive guy and he is smarter than people give him credit. Despite a couple of bumps in the road and some devastating injuries, we are still on track to move into the Hex. I have little doubt that we will qualify for Brazil 2014. Klinsmann's legacy is still being written, but I'm going to guess that his tenure will be seen as a turning point for US Soccer.

Bummer that we won't participate in the 2013 Confederations Cup, but I'm sure that Klinsi will schedule a tough batch of friendlies to prepare the team.

I'm still long on JK. How about you?

I think he's a fraud, but I won't mind in the least being proved wrong. It's nice to read some optimism for a change, anyway, so thanks!

I regret Holden's injuries the most, what a prospect?
Also the loss of Davies still grates. He's not going to all of a sudden heal at Randers FC.
We failed to nab Rossi before his dad had him sign with a European club. He could-a, would-a, should-a, have been the one.
Perhaps less important was losing Subotic to Serbia since he's not even starting for them in the qualifiers, and was touted as their next defensive mainstay.
I thought Chandler fit in the same way that Rossi or Subotic did before they were lost.
Jones is a real puzzler. Not only is he not a typical DM or box-to-box guy, he has this tendency to go off the cliff during a match and do something really stupid and unnecessary, not an entirely good trait.
Fabian is a god-send. Williams and Boyd too, I think, although it is hard to evaluate Boyd based on his play in Vienna. A little like imagining if Aron Johannsson playing in Denmark and the leading league scorer will abandon Iceland and play forward for us.
It's too early to tell if Parkhurst (not playing that well in UEFA tournament), Lichaj (Aston Villa is not the same), Spector (starting at CM for his Championship club), will pan out.
    Interesting times.

Meh. Many of us knew the guy as a fool.

Now he's contradicting himself within the same interview. That means perhaps he's worse than a fool.

Dooley was not sufficiently Joachim Low'ish for JK's tastes..... those tastes could only be satisfied by the magnificent footballing intellect of Vasquez.

The more I see of Klinsmann, the more I am convinced that he is a con-artist. He talks a good game, but can't back it up.

The only thing world-class about Klinsmann is his ability to bullshit. He'd make a better publicist or Public Relations guy than a coach.

How about Bob and Jurgen both blow and we need a real soccer coach? I try to defend him but his weakness in tactics is killing us. If he can't find someone to handle tactics he needs to go. Any good South American coaches available? Southe America knows all about developing good youth players

I have no proof, but I think dooley simply would not roll over like MV probably does. I simply cannot imagine a CM pair and CB pair not being organized and positionally aware under Dooley. The guy is old school BL. I would very much like to see him in camp again.
