I believe Nelson said something about telling Basti "the horrors of MLS," but he probably did forget to mention that.

If they live anywhere North of River Nirth the commute is devastating for Pro athletes. It's just bad in their bodies.

Was just going to drop some $$ to support this decision by purchasing bastian jerseys for the whole family....

No home reds on website. Don't know if I should wait ... Or see if they have them in stadium... Or warm up to the grays...

    This shouldn't have been difficult.

so I've gone from "Schweinie might be Matthaus" worry to "Schweinie might be Blanco" worry - that is, even if he's good, cheap ass Andy (or whoever) will allow the team to decline around him until he's too old to be the final piece in the puzzle.

It's just impossible for me to enjoy anything about this team until all the Hauptman stench is completely washed away.

I know. I have NEVER purchased a jersey from the "official" site, but I was going to do it. I checked and they had a few, and then there were none. I will try again, soon.

The Fire not being prepared for the signing of Bastian and increased jersey sales?

Raccoons are native to North America (Fück Yeah!) but have been introduced to some other areas around the world. Maybe we can trade them for some reindeer.

Edit: nevermind the reindeer (fück Santa anyway). Raccoon dogs look awesome!

I like having guys like Bastien on the team for sure. However, a part of me thinks its like painting a crack house.

Why can't crack houses look nice?

If you use the 'right' paint, the crack users could get high on the fumes. Although, that might be bad for business.

I am watching the Fire talk show on the DVR.
I wanted to take a bit of time before listening to Nelson Rodriguez talk.
He did start with a bit of lickage towards Hauptman.

I wanted Magee (who was a guest on the show) to just reach over and punch him. Why? Because he is Mike Magee.

I did like much of what Rodriguez says about why players will come to MLS.
He said that they lost a player to China who signed in China for "$84 million."

That player was, almost assuredly, Carlos Tevez.
I like Tevez, but would rather have Schweinsteiger.
Tevez is only out of himself and has proven that since he was 22, moving from Corinthians, West Ham, ManU, Man City within three or four years.

I am beginning to think they blew all their TAM GAM on Basti.
We know for a fact that the Fire received just from this year
    $200k GAM floor
$200k GAM for not making the playoffs
    $1.2 Mil TAM floor
$3.845 Mil salaries the MLS picks up

I am sure they spent whatever is left on Schweinsteiger and there is none left at this point, but they did spend quite a bit on Juninho's salary (getting it down under DP level) and $400k for McCarty.

I think the suspicion that the league kicked in something for Schweinsteiger's salary is likely, one way or another, is pretty sound.

Was there a transfer fee involved or was he released from his contract with United?

"We did not pay a transfer to acquire his services this year."

Notice how he said We and not the MLS.

BTW there is some classic NROD line in this interview
"I also know that there's a current trend that the only way to (find) a successful number 10 is to go to Argentina and find a number 10 fairy tree that sows you a South American 10, and that's the only way that you can have a 10. I'm not saying that Pauno is going to play him in the 10 role. That will be Pauno's decision, but there's a lot of different types of playmakers that can impact the game. Andres Iniesta, I don't think anyone considers a 10, yet he finds a way to impact the game. Luka Modric isn't a classic ten, yet he finds ways to impact the game. Bastian Schweinsteiger is a great player, with great vision and phenomenal soccer IQ and a wide history in his own game. People forget that he started almost as an heir apparent to Pierre Littbarski on the wing as a wide midfielder and he terrorized teams and opponents from that position. Now he doesn't have the same speed, and the same physical elements to his game that he did when he first started as a teenager, but the rest of his game has grown. We believe he will make an impact on the field for us. I would say that people should be wary to underestimate the heart and character of a champion.

The guy doesn't understand that people are going to Argentina because they are relatively cheap for the quality they possess. Especially with their league collapsing due to financial trouble.

According the BBC, Schweinsteiger transferred to the Fire on a free.

    21 March
Bastian Schweinsteiger [Manchester United - Chicago Fire] Free

The first half if this quote is pure "Shady" bullcrap.
It is not a "10 fairy tree" it is scouting and developing relationships to uncover and sign a No. 10. What an ass this guy is.

The second half is largely true, Iniesta, Luka Modric and Schweinsteiger are not "classic No. 10), but midfielders who make a significant impact.
Most people do remember that he was on the right wing for much of his career.

Not sure Schweinsteiger was the "heir apparent" to Littbarski, since Littbarski retired from the (West) German National Team in 1990, when Schweinsteiger was only 6 years old. Schweinsteiger began his German career in 2004, 14 years after LIttbarski retired.
