...too soon? http://www.chicago-fire.com/news/20...ls-executive-nelson-rodriguez-general-manager Yallop out Mathis out Bircham out Bliss interim coach Logan Pause returns to the bench as assistant coach Rodriguez to head up the search. "I share our fans’ frustration and, while we’ve enjoyed success off the pitch, I’m obviously not happy with the results on it. I felt the need to make changes now in order to better position ourselves for the off-season and beyond," Andrew Hauptman.
You guys can quote me here in about 2-3 years but I'm not impressed with this guy. Reeks too much of Chivas USA. (hope i'm wrong)
Should this be the "Andrew Hauptman Career Deathwatch Thread" if the league is sending guys to fix this? Anyway, Bliss has been a coach before. He and Pause have been working with the PDL team so for better or worse he's been coaching a while.
From Orrin Schwartz http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20150920/sports/150929930/ The Rodriguez move suggests the league was somehow involved. If so, that is a good thing, because Hauptman has shown he's in over his head on his own.
Nelson Rodriguez's role with MLS: http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/...driguez-resigns-from-Major-League-Soccer.html His role with US Soccer: http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...son-rodriguez-national-team-advisory-services An interview with him from 2012 about the direction of the league: http://grantland.com/the-triangle/the-designated-player-behind-the-lines-with-nelson-rodriguez/
It sounds like Nelson Rodriguez has the duties of a president and GM, yet only has the title of GM. Maybe Hauptman doesn't want anyone to have a title that would suggest top of the food chain?
I’ve spoke with Mr. Rodriguez a few times and he impressed me with his knowledge and insight into the league and US system. Others I know who work in the league or with the league also speak very highly of him. He obviously is not an outsider and has experience and a pretty solid pedigree around the game. A lot of folks have been asking for a GM, I think (and hope) we got a really good one. Should be an interesting end of season and even more interesting off season. I'm actually a tad optimistic
