Now FCD has their little How We Blew It To Pachuca story too Guess it's better than a We Beat Them And You Didn't story, but ideally it would have been a Mugged for Two Legs And Left Beside The Frisco Tollway story
Why does this article keep calling FCD "the Huntsmen"? http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/soccer/soccer/2017/04/05/fc-dallas-lose-better-team-hurt-way
I guess because they are owned by the Hunts. It is one of the problems with the generic "FC" name. People seem to constantly say that a nickname will organically arise but one hasn't caught on in Frisco despite a decade of people trying different ones.
Lotta schaudenfrede (spelling) out there about FC Dallas losing but that was us 10 years ago and when was the last time we were even in CCL?
Same thing happened to us in Torreon. Boswell had a couple of defensive lapses, and we lost against Santos.
The Dynamo were in the Group Stage in the fall of 2013. We got 7 points in the first three group games but lost at Arabe Unido in the last game and got bounced.

The USSF has apparently figured out how to allot teams into the new CCL. https://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2017/04/06/concacaf-champions-league-ccl-qualifying-format-changes# This article takes a lot of words to explain it but here is the gist: 2018 CCL - The 2016 qualifiers Seattle, Dallas, Colorado, NY Red Bulls 2019 CCL - 2017 & 2018 MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup winners 2020 CCL - the current system - 2019 MLS Cup, Supporter Shield, U.S. Open Cup, and Other Conference winners The only doubtful thing is the step-down process for the 2019 bids in case of duplicate or Canadian winners. They would likely use regular season points but that could be combined for the two years. We shall see. The USSF will probably announce something official.

They are a kind of phoenix club but with a long gap. There was a first-division team in Progreso, Honduras back in the 60s but they folded in the 70s. The new team was started in 2011, won the second division in 2014, and then the first division in 2016. This is their second straight appearance in the CONCACAF leagues.
The format for the Fall Champions League has been apparently leaked. We'll see if this is how it actually works. Pot 1 Alajuelense (CRC) Belmopan Bandits (BLZ) San Juan Jabloteh (TRI) Honduras Progreso (HON) Real Estelí (NCA) TBA (PAN) * Plaza Amador (PAN) Alianza (SLV) Pot 2 Santos de Guápiles (GUA-CRC) Portmore United (JAM) Central FC (TRI) Platense (HON) Olimpia (GUA-HON) Walter Ferretti (NCA) Chorrillo FC (GUA-PAN) Águila (SLV) Pot 1 will be drawn against Pot 2 on May 31. Teams from the same federation can't be drawn against each other with the exception of the Guatemala replacements. Pot 1 teams will automatically host the 2nd legs of each pairing. The pairings will be given a number 1-8 as they are drawn. The quarterfinals will be Pair 1 v. 2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8 with the odd numbered pairings winners getting the 2nd leg at home. For the semifinals the teams will be ranked based on the results from the first two rounds based on points, goal difference, goals, etc. Those seeds will then be 1 v. 4 and 2 v. 3. The higher seeds will host the second legs.

Probably points out the lack of public "give a darn" in the new concept that even people who do follow such things fairly closely, could miss a whole round. They thought it wasn't visible enough and then basically turned on a fog machine next to it. Other thing that suddenly clicked for me is the massive lag there will be in terms of "reward." Since the reward is "earned" in a calendar season but then you play the following CONCACAF school year season, and only enter in a later spring phase, your "reward" will come no sooner than a year later than it is earned. Win Cup/SS/USOC in the fall of now, play in the spring two years later. While it would now make sense to reward our "hot hand" from 2017 with 2018 participation, what is instead happening is the teams who won in 2016 will enter in 2017 nominally but not see the field until the 2018 phase. A team earning the right this season won't actually play til 2019. Teams winning this season will have to sit around and wait for 2016 to take its turn even though our season is done before they start international play. I get the concept and how on paper this is supposed to help us advance deeper to compete for the win, but in reality it's a long lag and you're gonna see some MLS parity teams that nosedive before their chance to play. And then when they finally play they are in preseason form.
