One of the Top Seeds are going down in the first round. Who do you think it will be? West Virginia is on upset alert in the 2nd round, if they play Rutgers. Casey Murphy can keep them scoreless for 100+ minutes, like Devon Kerr did to West Virginia last year. Don't be surprised if Rutgers pulls off the upset, if they get the opportunity to play against WVU. That is a 50-50 match, and very low scoring. UCF is vulnerable against Washington State. Wazzou beat UCLA earlier this year, and this could be the top seed to go down in the 1st round. Texas is on upset alert against North Texas. Another 50-50 match. Probably another nail-biting low scoring game. Colorado vs. Denver is yet another 50-50 game. Flip a coin on that one. I thought the same regarding the UCF/Wazzu match. I’m gonna pick the upset, and say Wazzu’s defense holds strong and they win in a pks
Central Florida beat UNC this year, I believe--2-1 in OT. They also beat Arizona. That said, I will be pulling for Washington State!
At first I thought Hofstra deserved a home game based on how well they've been playing lately, but now I realize they definitely blew it by losing 1-0 at Pittsburgh as well as going winless against two Ivy opponents, so I'll redact my earlier statement. They left a few chips on the table as far as their total resume was concerned. It's going to be a very big test for them at Auburn and as a fan of the midmajors, I'm hoping they are able to pull off something special and continue their amazing run.
This year seems like one of the worst years in recent history for mid-majors. Georgetown going to a final 4. CAA getting 4 teams in. There couldn't have been many mid-major at-large bids this year. Is this a trend where the gap is growing? Or is this just a down year? The days of Santa Clara and Portland being top of the pecking order are over? UCF is carrying the torch. I know they beat UNC, but they are going to have to prove it in the NCAA tournament to prove their ranking to me.
