Indeed it was. My bad. Totally spaced it. And Fury was indeed the movie which had the Tiger I from the Bovington Tank Museum. And in xhecking it out i discovered that it was the first time an actual Tiger had been used in a movie since 1950.
I remember a comment made by a German officer to the Japanese that they tolerated the presence of Semites, meaning they actively did not pursue those of Jewish ancestry. Perhaps even alluding to an agreement to turn over any Jews to the Nazis. There is also reference to the Japanese-American internment camps.
I only watched the first episode because I stayed up late with my wife while she had a late work call and I saw Kerry Russell was in it. Hooked instantly. Give the second season a go. Phenomenal imo.
I watched bits of the second season and a lot of the first, and I still read the recaps. I just have a difficult time watching something so dark. That's just me -- I still recognize that it's brilliant.
I feel the quality of television shows has improved on ancillary cable networks and over the internet platforms where ratings are not the most important factor.
I think that's better expressed as "advertiser rates" are not the most important factor. Netflix still needs ratings, in the form of subscribers, but they don't need to hit certain levels to sell ads.
And, in Netflix's case, it turns out it's cheaper and simpler to make your own shows that you own all the rights to in all markets instead of the complicated licensing fees for other shows and movies - which have an increasing number of competitors bidders for.
LOL! I saw those guys back in the mid-80s in an absolutely massive nightclub across the canal from the Stella Artois brewery in Leuven, Belgium. The place was called the Manhattan, and was owned by the brewery. They served drafts in glasses for like 30BF (about 65 cents) and they had these guys dressed like admirals (Chief Drinking Officers, we named them) going around collecting all the empty glasses. At one point, Melle Mel bellowed to the crowd, "How do you say 'peace' in Belgian?" (as if there was an actual language). He stuck the mike down to a puzzled woman in the front and she said, "Uhh, peace in Belgium, Yah!" One of the coolest, yet most bizarre concerts I've ever attended.
And they got an Oscar for The White Helmets. I watched it tonight. There are amazing people everywhere.
Listening to his recent interview where he talked about teams in Chicago, San Diego and Atlanta, I don't think he's going to. The NASL will be in the same boat when the provisional D2 period ends. USSF will try to take away D2 status. NASL will fold. The smart teams will merge with USL. Cosmos will finally do the American soccer landscape a favor and die off completely. All of this around 2018.
Although this thread is technically about NASL--it actually acted as a kind of off season party thread. With the opening of the MLS season i guess the days of this thread are numbered? Anyway--to celebrate the official start of the MLS 2017 season with the zaniness that characterized this thread-- i give you this:
