They can have everything lined up, but if they can't find a place to play in it means nothing. Could even kill the bid.
To further clarify, Peter Wilt is a consultant to the OC NASL group through his work with Club 9. Michael Collins is the Sporting Director for OC NASL.
Per the Midfield Press interview: 7. Peter tweeted about Titan Stadium recently. Will that be the home of the OC NASL team? PW: Titan Stadium is the leading candidate. We are working with Cal State Fullerton’s athletic department to secure a long term lease. MC: We came to an agreement with Titan Stadium last week and we are working on a Memorandum of Understanding this week. We had a lot of positive discussions. We’re looking to do a long term project with Cal State Fullerton and would be looking at how we can help their soccer program as well. Also interested in seeing what they say in the Part 2 interview on Monday.
Well that's comforting because honestly he needs to be in Chicago as they'll need his expertise far more in my opinion then OC will.
Oh, my bad. Haven't heard anything on that front in a bit, which is a little worrying, but that's not normally the kind of stuff we hear about anyway until it's close to done.
Considering last we heard the only interesting thing left to do in Chicago was get a stadium situation figured out, there probably isn't much to hear until that is figured out. Even then you might not hear about it until the team is officially announced as an expansion team.
http://midfieldpress.com/2017/02/27/peter-wilt-talks-san-diego-chicago-more-nasl-expansion/ Club 9's San Diego group is further ahead in the process than Albion at this point.
Interesting that they're going to modular route in North County (presumably Oceanside). So they technically won't be a true San Diego team nor anywhere near the main population of the county. Leaves plenty of room for USL to make their expected play closer to San Diego proper.
Wilt mentions that in Part 2 of his interview. Good news and bad. Good news is a developer is actually looking to build a 15,000 seat stadium in Chicago for the team. Bad news is that will take time to do. So they are looking into a modular stadium in city limits. But if they can't figure something out soon, Wilt said they're willing to wait until 2019. So Chicago NASL is still moving, but the timetable might not be what we thought. Also, this is a great read. Andres Helmick Reddit AMA: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/5wb6i8/san_franciscos_new_pro_soccer_team_sf_deltas_im/ Big take away is he wishes he had more time to line things up for launch. Kind of like Wilt and Chicago are doing, even if not entirely by design.
This guy. This guy is either delusional or could build one of the best soccer facilities anywhere. All those fields, restaurants, bars, shops.........I know the adage about a fool and his money may apply.
Based on the frontpage of that site the major announcement is going to be a soccer version of Lingerie football league, complete with a mens division.
Any word on if they've finalized OC's Stadium or any word out of Wilt's meetings with Oceanside and Escondido down in San Diego County?
Depends. Sometimes stuff gets posted here almost immediately. Sometimes stuff at the lower levels gets overlooked for weeks.
