JACKSONVILLE ARMADA FC ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL GAME The Armada FC, Jacksonville’s new professional North American Soccer League (NASL) team, will play its inaugural soccer match against the Philadelphia Union at EverBank Field on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 5 pm ET. http://www.nasl.com/article/uuid/jh...mada-fc-announces-inaugural-game#.VHT-OdoaySM
Per NASL Website, Atlanta will be back next year as a league owned team i.e, whipping boys, while they look for committed local ownership and consider moving to Cobb County. Didn't realize the guys who just bought the team have jumped ship already. Maybe they're part of the ownership group Wynalda is building San Diego?
Wow, that was a leap you just made. Also, from the news story: “We have tremendous belief in the Atlanta market, and we know that we can have long-term success there.” And by "long-term," they mean "until March or April 2017."
Funny how Peterson had just tweeted that they were the only league in the country with individual ownership for every team. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Could he argue that the league is one individual? BTW USLPRO has individual ownership per team right? Who owns multiple uslpro teams?
I am not aware of any. The premise was ridiculous on the face of it because ( a ) MLS' non-conformity with this supposed selling point is that AEG owns one franchise and one half of another and ( b ) it's not an actual selling point because who the hell cares? Were the first four years of the NASL null and void because Traffic owned multiple teams and the league owned Minnesota? At least when AEG owned multiple teams, you didn't have to worry about them going away like, to choose teams completely at random, AC St. Louis and Crystal Palace Baltimore, who were owned by entities without stakes in any other club.
Would have been nice if they played Orlando City instead...to spark a little bit of a Florida cross-league rivalry there! I think that would have created more fan interest and maybe even gotten some OCSC fans to make the drive up!?
And it didn't go particularly well. (Actually, he was named Technical Director.) That's why I said it's a leap. Prime was wondering if there's a link now. As in, "Is there any real reason to believe that the fact the Silverbacks' owners aren't going to own the Silverbacks anymore is an indication that they're throwing in with a guy they have done business before who may or may not be able to pull together something in San Diego, which would be tons more expensive to do than the club they apparently just bailed on?" In other news, Thomas Rongen is back. Yes, Thomas Rongen is back.
NASL, Cosmos look to expand, improve television product “We will get [national television] sorted out as we get closer to the 18 teams, but this year, it is really what do we do with the streams, let’s make sure the away broadcast is coming in and there may be some surprises before the season. Let’s see.” http://www.empireofsoccer.com/improve-television-product-30647/
If this is really Gunter's post (I'm not a friend on Facebook) then it is definitely too bad. If true, it's sad that the new owners would let this guy go and treat him in a way that he felt so disrespected. I can understand new owners wanting to bring in their own folks to run things, but I would think they would strongly look at a coach that just made it to the finals. This report suggests they offered him a salary at less than 1/3 of his salary from last year.
Funny how Atlanta and South Florida are often derided as less-than-optimal sports markets, yet they are supposed to be the ones where MLS and the NASL are going to co-exist.
Raul unveiled at New York Cosmos as Real Madrid legend prepares for USA bow after being given dual-role with club http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Real-Madrid-legend-prepares-make-USA-bow.html 'Everyone throughout the soccer world knows the Cosmos name and the legacy of the players that played for the team previously,' 'They helped establish soccer in America and I'm honoured to follow in their footsteps. I believe in this club's vision and I'm excited to be a part of that.' New York Cosmos say Raul Signing Boosts Club Sales http://www.espnfc.com/north-america...ork-cosmos-say-raul-signing-boosts-club-sales "Our supporters are very excited about the signing of Raul. We've had a surge of interest in season ticket sales and replica shirts are selling well too. Raul's arrival is a major talking point as was the club bringing in Pele and Beckenbauer," added Stover.
Expansion talk. Skype FC RT @Fla_Soccer: TKR sources indicate that #NASL will announce an LA franchise as early as next week w/ Eric Wynalda involved.— BSS (@bestsoccershow) December 8, 2014 #NASL commish Bill Peterson told me NASL has “3-4 (expansion) situations that are getting pretty close” Expects 1-2 West Coast teams “soon”— Ives Galarcep (@SoccerByIves) December 9, 2014
I like this. IMO Tim did a great job when Traffic gave him some support in 2011 during the relaunch of the brand. I hope he gets the budget he needs to run the business well from the new owners.
I guess they could have said reappointed. Robbie's tenure with the new Strikers coincided with the club's rebirth in 2011. He served as president of the Strikers in 2011 and 2012 and managing director of the club in 2013 and 2014
