Yeah, I haven't seen anything about what will happen with the USL franchise. I can't see them staying here obviously. Ideally they would remain owned by the MLS group and moved somewhere in the region as a feeder club. Selling it works too. Given the fact that MLS is single-entity with their own franchises, no club really gets "promoted". The only reason we think of it that way is because sometimes the owners of a lower division club becomes the owner-operators of an MLS club and keeps the previous club's identity. NSC kind of did it backward with the MLS group buying the USL club, but still the identity remains the same, which is good.
What would be a good market for the USL club - that doesn't already have a team? Knoxville Huntsville My backyard
Is the MLS ownership group completely different, or are there some carryovers from the owners of the USL side? If it's the former then there's not much point to using promotion at all.
Can't say it enough, I'm happy for Nashville. I only have two complaints... That the existing USL team isn't being brought up to MLS. The new logo is bad, the existing one is SO much better. I sincerely hope they ditch the "new" logo and keep the old.
I haven't paid that much attention, but I think some of the USL ownership stayed on as minority partners.
Love this logo, very original. I like the old logo as well but it's similar to other MLS logos in that it would be another round, coin looking logo, to which there are already 4, plus Inter Miami. And they didn't go with the Sporting KC, San Jose, Montreal look either is good. IMO
Was @golers referring to the players though? Surely some of those lads will be brought up? And the coach...?
Yes, partially. I'm sure things will change going from USL to MLS. What I'm still not clear on is will the MLS version of Nashville SC be continuation of the current club, a new entity all together, or a mix.
The talk down here has been about keeping our coach and our goalkeeper and few other players for the move to the MLS...
Is there a place to go on BS for Nashville news? Is this it? No posts since Feb? I do not see anything in USL. Please point me in the right direction. I must be missing it.
Other than the news that they will be playing at Nissan Stadium for two seasons before the new stadium is scheduled to open in 2022 and that it is now planned to have a 30K capacity (which is too big), there's not a lot to report. And the USL side is only slightly better than last season, which given the players they acquired in the off-season is disappointing.
How bad is this news? https://tntribune.com/community/local/nashville/mls-soccer-draws-a-yellow-caution-card/
Wow, maybe Nashville won't be entering the league quite so early. If at all? Then again, MLS was very patient with Miami, although that means nothing for Nashville I guess.
I'd have a hard time seeing MLS pull the plug on Nashville entirely - if the team truly had no place to play, that would be a different story, but whether a temporary venue, (Nissan Stadium) gets used for two years or five years will be irrelevant in the long term.
Agreed. I don't know how much this will delay things, but I hope this latest stunt fails. I mean for crying out loud, can these people find no other place in Nashville to have a bloody flea market? And it is interesting reading the story in the Tennessee Tribune (whatever the hell that is) and the Tennessean. The TT story seems much more sympathetic to the Save the Fairgrounds cause.
I actually read Article II of the Nashville-Davidson Charter, and it seems like as long as a county fair operates for at least six days, it shouldn't matter what happens on site for the other 359 days, as long as the Tennessee State Fair, Expo Center events, Auto Racing, and Flea Market all continue.
So now Cooper has been elected mayor. He was one that opposed the fairgrounds location. Should be interesting how things go from here.
With things already having been approved from the city side what can he do to undo that? Serious question.
