Thanks @Brian in Boston . That's the kind of info I was looking for regarding the Fairgrounds: not much there now, but a lot of potential. I still don't get Vandy's interest in moving their football games off campus, but who knows?
i don't think vandy does want to move i don't see anywhere in that bit you quoted about them wanting to move.
Brian in Boston didn't comment on it: I was just referring back to this: http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...ajor-league-soccer-ownership-group/546471001/ "As part of a possible stadium plan for MLS in Nashville, Ingram and Vanderbilt are exploring the idea of a pro soccer stadium that would also be an off-campus home for Vanderbilt football."
The Fairgrounds is not far from downtown but it's not exactly a great area of town. Maybe they can gentrify the surrounding area. I rode my bike north of Germantown and there are many apartment buildings going up in what is otherwise a fairly industrial area. Perhaps it could happen near the Fairgrounds as well. I doubt the Vanderbilt administration wants to move to the MLS stadium and the fans surely don't want it either. I hope it is just being floated as an option but not a serious one.
yeah but somewhere in there, or in this thread, you, or someone else, stated Vandy wanted to move. no they don't.
Just reading that Vandy might be "exploring the idea"; I've asked, rhetorically I suppose, why they would want to move off campus. I can't imagine they'd be interested.
And now Vandy has officially come out and said they aren't intending to move their games to the proposed MLS stadium. Kind of a no-brainer. The fans didn't want it.
Nashville MLS stadium: Mayor Barry, Ingram reach preliminary financing deal; proposal coming Monday http://www.tennessean.com/story/new...r-megan-barry-john-ingram-proposal/712059001/
This guy thinks Nashville is indeed expansion team #24 although Alexi Lalas says their selection is 100% not true. I'd love to see it as it would give ATL a natural geographic rival, even moreso than Orlando: https://www.dirtysouthsoccer.com/2017/10/2/16404130/nashville-mls-expansion-2019-report
Puts pressure on Miami. If 3 teams (Sac, Det, Nash) ready to go, and one is in the South (generally speaking), Miami might be in some trouble for #24.
If you're a MLS fan, why would you not want a team in your city? Wouldn't that make the entire experience 100% more enjoyable?
Plus, the proposed MLS stadium only holds 27,500 which might be a deal-breaker as Vandy's stadium holds 40K. Granted, they only fill it for big games when the visiting team brings a ton of fans, but the lower capacity would still ultimately mean fewer tickets sold.
It seems like you're speaking for an entire city that doesn't share your opinion. If Nashville lands a team, it will be a huge hit with local fans and I'm willing to bet the ATL game will be among the hottest tickets of the year. In fact, you can probably count on seeing a bunch of ATL fans attending that game as it would make for a great road trip (assuming it would be a weekend game). Not sure where the negativity is coming from. This would be very good news for both Nashville and ATL.
you're not? you've assumed everyone wants an MLS team. seriously, i like the Crew but don't care for the MLS that much. it all seems phony and manufactured. like "look at us england, we sing too...". just not that big a deal to me. for the most sloppy football, ping pong football.
Thanks for taking the time to come into an MLS forum to tell us how dumb it is. People like you are ridiculous. Go away troll. You are not welcome here.
So what exactly, we should have no professional soccer in the U.S.? Because anything that gets started is going to "seem phony and manufactured". Our clubs didn't start in the 19th century like in England and aren't over 100 years old like most of major league baseball. The reason the Cascadia rivalries are so great is because they date back forty years. The rest of the league didn't have that head start. So keep watching EPL games on television and ignore the rest. We'll get along just fine.
I guess we are supposed to go back in time and start the teams 150 years ago so they can not be "phony"
Also, I didn't come in here to "troll" anyone. Just putting my two cents in. Maybe you should go away from the internet until you grow up a bit.
