and another one comes along in order to take their place...

NPSL is proud to announce that Inter Nashville FC (Nashville, TN) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Southeast Conference.
“The NPSL is thrilled to continue in Nashville, Tennessee,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “The NPSL’s Southeast Conference has strong regional rivalries, and we look forward to working with Pedro, Richard, and Jomo as new members.”
Inter Nashville FC is led by Pedro Reyes, Richard Askey, and Jomo Cromwell.
Reyes is a successful businessman in Nashville and is the founder of the International Indoor Soccer Complex. He also formed a TSSA youth travel soccer club called International Soccer Club. Reyes is the Majority Owner and President of Inter Nashville FC.
Askey served as Assistant Coach and Head Coach for the Nashville Metros (2004-2009) and Assistant Coach at Nashville FC (2015-2016). Askey is the Minority Owner, General Manager, and Head Coach of Inter Nashville FC.
Cromwell has worked for both Rocket City United and Nashville Metros and brings a wealth of contacts and knowledge to the organization.
“We want to be competitive in the conference and create an exciting and hard-working team for the whole of Nashville to get behind,” Askey added. “We will bring passionate fans and a professionally-run organization to the NPSL.”
The International Indoor Soccer Complex (IISC), based in Antioch, TN, will serve as the club’s home venue. The IISC has three full-size grass fields with lights, one stadium turf field with lights, three indoor fields, a club pro shop, and a restaurant. The complex was started in 2012, beginning with outdoor fields, and the indoor facility was completed in 2014. A new indoor futsal complex is currently under construction.
“The local competition and being able to have our fans travel to away games is huge for us,” Askey concluded. “We also align with the NPSL values of inclusion and spreading the world’s game.”
More information about the club can be found at www.internashvillefc.comor by following the club on Facebook (@internashvillefc) and Twitter (@internashfc).

    Already bought mine!

I don't know how close they will come to that 6200 goal. The first round of ticket sales were to 1779 Club members and then people signed up to the NSC fan club, which is around 7500. Next would to be the general public. That's where the real selling begins.

the league has revealed four finalists for the first two expansion spots, which will be announced before the end of the year:

    Cincinnati
    Detroit
    Nashville
    Sacramento

The finalists will make presentations to the league's Expansion Committee and Commissioner Don Garber on Dec. 6, and the MLS Board of Governors meeting on Dec. 14 will include additional discussions on expansion with ownership representatives from every team.

That was a great announcement. Hey, you never know. It just might be the first match in a soon-to-be MLS rivalry.

I'm dissapointed that there are not 3 conferences by this stage.

    there is no "merge".
they will likely go to 3 conferences in 2019 (they certainly could have this year)
schedule on hold likely due to Miami FC decision. but no matter, it will be 2 conferences and not 3 next year.

Yeah, I wouldn't exactly call clubs fleeing a dying league a merger.

While we don't have the season schedule yet, we do know that NSC will open at league champs Louisville on 03/17 and have their home opener against Pittsburgh the following week.

So can I ask a question?

When MLS Nashville sets up, is that the end of NSC or do they stick around like an affiliate or something?

I'm pretty sure they will essentially be promoted like Minnesota, Orlando, Montreal, Vancouver, Portland and Seattle were.

That's a good question. About half of the MLS teams have either a completely owned USL team or a hybrid team where they control the coaches and players.

There are three options being pursued by various MLS teams:

    1. Keep and run the entire operation of their own USL team in the same market: Atlanta, LA Galaxy, NYRB, Kansas City, , Portland, Salt Lake, and Toronto. Philadelphia has pushed their team out to Bethlehem but they run everything.

    2. Do more of hybrid approach with a nearby market where a local organization runs the non-soccer operations: Houston, Seattle, and San Jose. I'm not 100% sure of the relationship between Vancouver and Fresno. They might be in the category. Colorado also has a lot of input with Charlotte.

    3. Affiliate with an existing USL team and just loan them players.

If I were a betting man, I would guess either option 2 first or option 3 if necessary. As far as nearby markets are concerned, Birmingham and Memphis will be in USL in the coming years.
