Crew chiefs are always fined in the same way that MLB managers are ejected when one of their pitchers throws at the opposing team.

That's a cool black drab helmet Tony has. Imagine how more scary Darth Vader would have been if he weren't shiny. "ssshhhshshhhsh---- Yeoman---- sssshhhshshhhsh---- The Force tells me---- sssshhhshshhhsh---- that my gauntlets must be waxed and buffed----- sssshhhshshhhsh----"

Congrats to Kevin Harvick!!! Winner of the survivor-style elimination award. His third place finished placed him ahead of 12th place Matt Kenseth to take the survivor award.

The survivor-style elimination took all of the starters from the season-opening Daytona 500, eliminating the last place driver among the remaining racers each week. Also all non-qualifiers were eliminated too.

Wasn't it Riggs who got Earnhardt aeroloose and sent him into the wall?

It's pretty rare when Tony wears anything but that style of helmet.

Jimmy Johnson placed himself into a commanding position for the Nextel Cup Championship with a 2nd place finish in Phoenix. With a 12th or better finish in Homestead, Johnson clinches. While I hate the Gordon-clone, Johnson does deserve this championship if one of my favorites can't win it, since he has shown both consistency and a winning way from the start of the year. I'd rather my favorites win (in this case Earnhardt), but if they can't I'd rather see the most deserving, a champion worthy of the name "Champion."

    10 - +1 - 978 - Edwards C

    Others: Busch Ku (858), Biffle G (777), Martin M (769), Vickers B (664)

Only Tony Stewart could over take Jimmy Johnson for the Hanki's Championship with a win and a Johnson finish of 20th or worst. Stewart cannot overtake Johnson by finishing second.

    Mr. Hanki's Chase Standings.

    1 - +0 - 861 - Stewart T
    2 - +0 - 780 - Johnson J
    3 - +3 - 673 - Harvick K
    4 - -1 - 567 - Kahne K
    5 - +0 - 555 - Edwards C
    6 - -2 - 546 - Kenseth M
    7 - +0 - 391 - Hamlin D
    8 - +0 - 372 - Gordon J
    9 - +0 - 305 - Earnhardt D
    10 - +0 - 256 - Busch Ky

Either Johnson or Harvick could overtake Stewart in the Hanki-style Chase Championship. Johnson would guarantee a championship with a win, and would get the championship with a second place finish so long as Stewart finishes lower than 20th place. Harvick can only win the championship by winning Homestead, and with Stewart finishing less than 21st place or worst and Johnson finishing 3rd or worst.

    Pre-Chase Point standings:

    1) #48-Jimmie Johnson 5015
    2) #17-Matt Kenseth, 5004, 11
    3) #29-Kevin Harvick, 4683, 332
    4) #20-Tony Stewart, 4609, 406
    5) #11-Denny Hamlin, 4560, 455
    6) #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr., 4530, 485
    7) #24-Jeff Gordon, 4476, 539
    8) #31-Jeff Burton, 4414, 601
    9) #6-Mark Martin, 4375, 640
    10) #5-Kyle Busch, 4362, 653
    11) #9-Kasey Kahne, 4327, 688
    12) #99-Carl Edwards, 4286, 729
    13) #16-Greg Biffle, 3890, 1125

Would have been one heck of a battle between Kenseth and Johnson. Could have come down to 1 lap led like it did in 1992.

Though he would not have had a chance to win the championship, Stewart would have had the chance to finish in the top 5 in points.

I don't know what's worse...the fact that I flew all the way to Vegas to see Jimmy Johnson win a race, or the fact that he's going to win the cup this season.

Good thing Matt did not lead a lap in the race. If he had he would have won by 1 point under the traditional scoring.

I hope they look at Tony Stewart's place in the "old school" points system as an obvious flaw in the current chase format.
This year was an odd Chase, no one in the top 10 ran especially well, letting Johnson come back and win it somehow.
I hate anything good that happens to Rick Hendrick, that bastard should still be in jail.

Yes, Tony would have ended up 4th and made a million or so more dollars than just the $1 million bonus for finishing 11th.

Totally agree with you on Hendrick on all accounts.
