Well then it must be true! Fairly textbook pen for me. If that happens to Salah I want it called every time.
And that's that - pretty comical mishap at the back....VVD with a bit of a slack pass under pressure - Robertson starts, then stops and Adrian doesn't come.... Llorente sneaks in for a goal.
VVD shits the bed for the 2nd goal. One of the few mistakes I've seen him make in his entire time at Liverpool.
Napoli have played well. Gotta tip the cap overall... if Mane (especially), Bobby, and/or Salah were just a little bit better LFC would take something from this match today.
Yep , if we have to lose one then this is the one . We are a much better side than Napoli and I think we'll see that back at Anfield. Tonight we looked a bit tired especially from about 60mins on , perhaps the heat and I thought Klopp could have gone to his bench with more than just Gini around then. Plenty of time to recuperate now before Chelsea .
In real time I thought it was a penalty. After 10 replays it seems a bit harsh but I would not classify that a bad call, I suppose reasonable minds may have disagreed in the moment and not given it. Yet again tactically Napoli did well. They fell under threat only when playing out the back and getting caught, or scuffing that clearance to Mo. Napoli kept a player wide to stretch us in attack and if not for a wondersave by Not Allison, they had a lead. Many times TAA had to bail out our CB pairing. Fair play to them. Napoli's CB were immense. Even when backed up into their area, they stood tall; frequently Mo/Bobby/Mane found no room between them to weave intricate passes. When they did, they were put off or closed down. Wasn't glorious but I'm not calling the second goal a bed defecation by VVD. We're down a goal with under 4' left, he's got neither options nor time to hoof it, so he neatly threads between two Napolian closer downers and finds a way to toe poke it to either Robertson or Not Allison. Rather than take charge both do Spiderman pointing indecisively at Spiderman, and Llorente gets the Champions League goal vs Liverpool which eluded him last year, when it counted. A draw maybe the result for boxing officials, but it's football. It'll be ok.
The result was shit, but I did watch the match with @dcc134 at a pub in Harrisburg. Nice to meet up with someone from here IRL. Next time we'll have to watch it in Lancaster just to make sure we get a result.
I think you could talk yourself out of a lot of pens after the 7th slo-mo replay. That's why it's got to be about the actual rule, too often it's about the perception of what a pen "should be" according to some sort of vague philosophical idea. Robbo sticks a boot in, gets nothing, and impedes the player with contact. Pretty basic stuff. It's not a violent clattering or a horrible trip or anything, but he gets in his way and the attacker (intelligently, or maybe sneakily...) draws contact and makes the ref make a decision. Two dozen pens for LFC have been given the same way.
good game overall. our front 3 just not clicking today. Napoli defended well (Italian team with Italian manager - whodathunkit?). oh well, we lost there last season and that turned out ok didn't it? now let's stuff Chelsea.
Clearly not a penalty from this angle. Surely VAR should have seen this? VAR didn’t see a dive here! I’m done with football now... https://t.co/rrxSthWk6S— Kenny (@KopAce74) September 17, 2019
Up until that PK they were looking gassed it was us doing all the pressing, we owned the midfield. Our forwards just couldn't make it though. Clever drawing Robbo into that PK. It was always going to fool the ref. they'd drawn a few clever similar fouls as well.
me neither. Not in this one. His unnecessaryily slack giveaway led to their disallowed goal early on.... When's Naby fit again.....?
