Yan Paing signs for Muang Thong United. He'll join them around July 15th.

    http://www.mtufc.tv/NewsDetail.asp?id=434

I have mixed feelings. Positive is I'm glad a myanmar player is playing in thailand, get exposure and such. Negative is, if he does not perform well, it'd bring bad image to other myanmar players, for pre-judical fans.

He's not exactly the best player in myanmar. But he's certainly one of the most effective. He's good on his day, no doubt, dangerous, always lurking around penalty box, threatening. He's good in turning-around-shoots, volleys, headers, he can hold up ball, he has good close-ball control to hold up play, and he can cross pretty decently. Useful player. But he's slow to react at times, get confused, make wrong decisions, but well, everyone learns. Also he's the target man for Myanmar so he could afford to be complacent and day dream. But with the Thai team, he'd be forced to be more alert. I'm sure he'd be trained well. He'd be meeting tougher defences. I think Muang Thong is looking for a player who can do what he does.

But it's not just about how good he is, it's also about how adaptable he is. World class players, such as Shevchenko, fails when they move from one league/country to another. Good luck to Yan Paing, when the deal pulls through after MNL Cup final.

Magway 0-1 Kanbawza (Soe Min Oo 70')

Kanbawza destroys Magway's hopes of reaching final. Magway finishes league round in 3rd position, Kanbawza finishes 4th.

    Yadanarbon 1st, Yangon 2nd.

    Final on July 5th

    Yangon United vs. Yadanarbon

    Avocados,
    Great updates - thanks.
My hunch about Yan Paing is he will fit in well with Muang Thong. I say that because the Yadanarbon coach probably has a good feel on how to use Paing due to his knowledge/connection with the Thai outfit. For one (in addition to everything you wrote), Yan Paing is a big guy compared to the rest of the Asean players and could be used in set-pieces (he heads well), and can also create space for the second forward by holding the ball and drawing defense. From what I have read about Muang Thong, though a newly promoted team, it is a contender and is seen favorably by the press (google Bangkok Post) for its professional management - plus deep pockets.
Schedule seems to work as the Thai Premier league ends mid October, so it will be good development for Yan Paing assuming he gets to play regularly. Hope he does not get hurt for the start of Myanmar League next Jan (assuming he returns to Yadanarbon)Question is if the team will release him for Myanmar national team games - Merdeka for one in Aug.

Muang Thong is a top club. Therefore, it's pretty impressive to play for them.

Muang Thong seems to have already been interested in Yan Paing even before the MNL league started and before Yohan Girard get to know the players (in the article below). Therefore, it's not all because of the influence of YDNB's manager Yohan Girard, but his link further influenced the move.

So I'm guessing, if he do well, he might continue playing there. It's hard to know myanmar players unless you get near them. They are very mysterious creatures.

But doing well there is difficult, I'm not holding too much expectations. Muang Thong already has a great attacking line-up. Paing will be like a player on Chelsea's roster - rotation. I think they have a plan, if not they wouldn't sacrifice an African player for him. I also want to watch Muang Thong's previous games to see how Teerasil, Suriya and others play. Actually we are being too humble. Paing could contribute on paper, like we've said. It all depends on his form, luck and adaptability.

Here is the article about foreign interest.

From my view on Thai forums.

I'm sure Thai fans of Muang Thong have mixed feelings. If the club is so rich, why not hire high profile players such as Bambang or Noh Alam Shah? Or a Brazilian player? Why a player from what they think not-good-enough football country? Well, a player has to start somewhere. How can you get a resume if you don't get opportunity in the first place. I like the open-mindedness of Muang Thong's management.

But there are also fans who are positive and already cheering on this signing. Probably more knowledgable fans who know a little about myanmar's development.

Now that MFF and government would not be fussy about players playing abroad, myanmar players could see some offers in future. If Soe Myat Min gets out of his injury woes and getting fat (he's becoming like Ronaldo), and back to his old ways, he'd be carried off abroad in no time.

Yan Paing and Soe Myat Min were approached way before and then MFF took a long time to come to a decision and lost a few opportunities.

Such as this. And this was even before Tiger Cup '04 when Soe Myat Min showed more.

Myanmar’s Myat Min likely to play for Penang

PENANG: The skipper of the Myanmar SEA Games football team, Soe Myat Min, could be on his way to feature for Penang in the Super League next year.

Striker Myat Min together with teammate and midfielder Yan Paing caught the eyes of the Penang FA deputy president, Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad, who was the manager of the Malaysian team for the Games. ....

Due to their recent international outing as well as domestic league, Kanbawza FC was approached by foreign players, 8 of them, from Portugal, Australia, Argentina and Thailand for negotiations to play for Kanbawza.

Kanbawza reveals that they have no plans to hire foreign players.

    http://www.soccermyanmar.com/index....6&catid=54:myanmar-national-league&Itemid=104

Magway's head coach Kyi Lwin said the same thing.

Why? I think this over-patriotism won't do good for myanmar football.

Come to think of it, Yangon is arguably the most popular MNL team. haha

Followed by Yadanarbon, for Mandalay fans. Big cities matter after all.

Seems like Kanbawza, which represents Shan State, is not so popular.

    Big News from Yangon United.

    http://www.soccermyanmar.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2851&Itemid=104

Yangon United owner U Tay Za revealed to press conference that Yangon is looking to spend money in this transfer period. Yangon is working on hiring a foreign coach, who is a former West Ham player and a Manchester United coaching staff, to help current head coach Myo Hlaing Win.

The owner also revealed that Yangon is working with 3 agents to hire players from Italy, Argentina and Cameroon. 2 players from Cameroon have already started negotiating deals. One of them is a former Cameroon national team player and another is a young Cameroon Olympic team player who played in Beijing Olympic team with Cameroon. Names for all targets and signings will be revealed in future.

He said that Yangon United had spent US$ 5million in total preparations for the recently finished MNL Cup, which includes players' sign on fees, salaries, facilities, among others. Yangon is also going to upgrade the Aung San stadium, which is their home stadium.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

That's the spirit! What's wrong with Kanbawza and Magway??? They don't want foreign players.. they are still in the old ministry teams mindset.

Magway FC has launched their official website. But like yadanarbon's, they are still in construction, half-complete. But Magway's website looks cool. Yadanarbon's look a little plain. But what matters is the contents. So far Yangon United has the best look, most detailed, and enjoyable website. Another thing to notice is the 4 clubs who have launched official websites are the top 4 clubs at the league table.

According to Myanmar Football Federation's Technical Director, U Soe Myint Lwin, Myanmar football players need to improve their technical skills and tactics. After the 1st MNL Cup, he has noticed that players tend to be in danger of failing to control their game-play tactically when they play with too much speedy movements.

U Soe Myint Lwin also said that Myanmar players still need to adjust to the professional play, improving their tactical approach (knowing when to hold the ball, when to dribble, when to pass), and to improve their technical skills (such as passing and shooting accurately). He also said that Yangon Utd and Magway FC have done very well in psychological training, (not being too nervous, disciplined, determined).

U Soe Myint Lwin said that Yadanabon FC's technical directions (management and coaching) is his favorite in MNL. He also thinks that Yadanabon players, Patrice Gnonsian and Valery Sanou, have impressed him the most.

As expected, the young nippy Magway FC is the most represented for the Sea Games squad. Champions Yadanarbon has only 2.

As with the national team, the defence for this U-23 squad is worrying. Hope is that they'd mature with MNL. However, Myanmar has an impressive squad in attack. At least to keep possession and dominate a few exchanges, merry-go-round the opponent's box, without really scoring... but to be positive:

Retains half the same members from last edition's finalists. Many playing their last sea games. With new players such as Kyi Linn (18 years old) of Yangon Utd, who is the current pin-up star of Yangon Utd, at the expense of Myo Min Tun and Aung Aung Oo. Arguably the current hottest prospect for Myanmar football will be featured in national team in no time.

There's also Soe Min Oo, AFC President's Cup star striker for Kanbawza. And Khin Maung Lwin, KBZ's defensive-winger who has shown that he could attack and score goals not only domestically, but also at international club stage and did well against Dordoi Dynamo - he's also a set-piece specialist, along with Tun Tun Win. If he gives the same form as his club outings, Myanmar has good force in attack.

Last edition's players, Paing Soe and Tun Tun Win are starting regulars for Yadanarbon's Championship winning team. They would also have matured under the coaching of ex-Muang Thong's manager and current Muang Thong's manager who also helps in managing Yadanarbon. Playing alongside, Valery Sanou, Patrice Gnonsian, and other foreign talents would hav helped them in professional play.

There's also previous edition's captain and vice-captain, midfielder Aung Myo Thant and defender Moe Win.

Last of all, you can't ignore national team members, Yazar Win Thein and Myo Min Tun, who can terrorize senior international oppositions.

There are also the players who are thought to be promising last time but haven't delivered at international stage - Aung Kyaw Myo, Soe Thiha Aung and Pyay Phyo Oo.

The Sea Games team looks good, especially in midfield. Midfield is the same as 2007. Probably matured and improved with MNL training and experience. With the addition of Kyi Linn, who could only make the team better. Last edition of Sea Games, they reached the final, mostly due to other teams' self-destructions, especially Vietnam. The team itself wasn't great, although they performed well against Thailand in the final, with possession and a few good chances, although Thailand created more and better chances. But Myanmar showed something in the final. So.. could they continue?

Midfielders, Myo Min Tun, Kyi Linn and Paing Soe will be fighting for who play the wings. Tun Tun Win and a defensive midfielder, most probably Aung Myo Thant, at the center. There's definitely gonna be pace, as Myo Min Tun and Kyi Linn are good runners.

Yazar Win Thein is actually a midfield playmaker more than an all-out striker. But due to the packed midfield candidates, he might be put in striker role. Soe Min Oo might partner him. But I see goals coming from the midfield instead. Kyi Linn, Tun Tun Win, Myo Min Tun, and even Paing Soe have all provided goals for their clubs and respective national teams in various outings.

I fear for the defence. I don't think they are alert enough to defend against skillful foreign strikers. Other than Khin Maung Lwin (who is more for attack), the other defenders to keep note are Moe Win and soccermyanmar.com's MNL Best XI's only local center-back, Aye San. Seems like the whole Kanbawza starting defence is in the team. And... from what we saw at AFC President's Cup, they are very careless...

Does anyone know what happened to the national goalkeeper Aung Kyaw Kyaw? I heard that he was sent to prison for 14 years for bribery? I'm trying to research the incident for a project, but cannot find any information anywhere.

Any information and/or links, contacts, etc. would be much appreciated.

I've been working really hard during my free-time to find out the identities of the Malaysian coach and u-23 goalkeeper who Okkthar United signed. But no matter how much I've tried, I can't find out their identities. Myanmar websites only revealed today that the coach is B. Sathianathan. But the goalkeeper's identity is still a secret. In the english media, I could not find anything about these moves at all. No reports from malaysian media or general english media about Sathianathan moving and stuff. Also the myanmar teams don't reveal the players they are hunting for, until they introduce them on the field. If they are top secret, clubs and the media are definitely good at keeping them. That I understand, the club's reasons. But why doesn't malaysian media or any sort of media report on the transfers. It was the same for yan paing's link with muang thong. If it wasn't for thai media, no one would have known about it.

Unlike world soccer, in which these news will be pretty much known by fans in details by now.
