    A discussion for the lawyers

A post from Governor Bullock. Is a pardon for Stone an impeachable offense or is he just pandering? The way I see it, a president can definitely abuse the pardon power just like a president can abuse any power of the office. I don't necessarily agree that pardoning Roger Stone would be impeachable though.

Having said that, if Trump told Stone to lie about everything and not worry about it because Trump would pardon him if he (Stone) was convicted of obstruction/perjury, then yeah it can be impeachable.

    Is that about right?

I am adding the pic so people who are not on Twitter can see.

Here's what George Mason and James Madison said about that while debating ratification of the Constitution:

    Trump will pardon him.

If not, he'll get ten years, a bible and his hair stroked at the sentencing

Yeah I think most of these inside ratf'ers like Stone & Rudy got assurances years ago that they'd be covered. Stone looks completely undisturbed by his conviction.

Unsurprisingly, Hannity was Manaforts back channel to Trump

Paul Manafort said he used Fox News host Sean Hannity to receive backchannel messages from President Donald Trump while prosecutors investigated him for financial crimes, according to newly released memos from former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

Among the several hundred pages of memos published by BuzzFeed News on Thursday, which contain summaries of FBI interviews with key Trump administration and campaign officials, the Fox News anchor’s alleged role as an unofficial messenger between the president and his former campaign chairman comes into sharp focus.

    Aiming for Presidential pardon, huh?

Since he spilled some beans already, I doubt Don Cheeto would offer that to him.

I thought you had to admit guilt to get a pardon, does the guilty plea not do that - he probably just thinks he can get away without punishment by going to trial. Or get a good plea deal, we do tend to do justice by plea deal- though usually mostly for poorer people than Flynn..

Nixon didn't admit guilt of anything before getting a pardon.

    Nixon wasn't convicted of anything.

Ford, AFAIK, invented the concept of the preemptory pardon, so that "our long national nightmare" could be over without the Republicans having to watch a President of theirs go to trial.

Which, of course, just allowed denial to continue and the nightmare to extend well into the new millennium...
