If you think your argument is solid, why do you keep counting tournaments that Jozy Altidore did not play in as evidence? For example, is it relevant that Wood actually went to the Copa and scored against the same number of top squads as Altidore?
I could have worded that better in that particular post; those were the matches in which the NT played rather the specific matches Altidore played. However, I had already listed the specific matches in which Altidore played. Wood has scored against top teams in WCQing, the Copa, and the Concacaf Cup. Altidore has played in the Confederations Cup, the Gold Cup, WCQing, Concacaf Cup, and the World Cup.
Jozy played better than 1 PL goal a season, but he had terrible luck at Sunderland and a crappy mid-field. Should have gone to that German or Italian club that was interested, though 13 million pounds is hard to turn down for a club like AZ.
I agree that the instant money is hard to say no to but I'd sure like some of our player to take the long view where less money now should equal more money later. Going to the wrong place wrecks your next contract (unless you have Toronto to rescue you).
I firmly agree. Which is probably why the likes of Shea and Agudelo didn't last long in Europe. Maybe in a Bundesliga or La Liga, they'd have succeeded. But it's either that clubs in those leagues don't desire the qualities in American players or they don't bid as high as their PL rivals.
Shea had plenty of chances. He didn't have the head for it. Players have to weather dry patches and crap situations. The good ones do, the bad ones become coaches in their late 20s.
Shea was never a cerebral player but he never played the same after that weird foot injury he had right before going to England.
that doesn't mean he may not have found some level of success had he gone to a different league that catered to his capabilities.
I agree with that part. Dumb move on his part. Like Aguedelo's. Our national team caliber guys haven't chosen well in the past but seem to be wiser now.
Interesting definition of "top team" for the sake of this argument. I mean, there's a lot of daylight b/w the Costa Rica we routed on home soil in the Copa America and the European champion and eventual World Champion Spain that Jozy scored against in South Africa. Or do you basically think they're interchangeable enough that conclusions can be made from this tiny sample-size of teams?
You left out some info off... Jozy bagged his tenth goal of the season off a nice give and go with the Toronto playmaker. Love the cool finish once Blake went to ground.Another goal for @JozyAltidore, his 10th of the year! Altidore has now hit double digits in all three seasons with TFC#TFCLive | #TORvPHI https://t.co/9XCiFCczIO— Toronto FC (@TorontoFC) August 24, 2017
how would you guys rank Jozy? among top 5 strikers in the league or what? Cause with his 4 million a year salary, he had better be moving loads of jerseys.
He's not a forward that can do it all by himself but surround him with a few mobile players and he's very good. Better on a team that has the ball on their side a lot than a counter attacking team.
I also like him on a team that counters with numbers. I think he does well as you said, when he has give and go partners.
Extremely happy. He carried us the last half of last year when he was only 2nd best to Villa. And he's been worth every penny.
On that note, has two assists to Pulisic in WCQs this Hex. Vs T&T and Honduras. Also played the ball into Pulisic for Lletget's goal vs Honduras. His hold up play and passing greatly benefits CP
Get this man to Harrison! @JozyAltidore with his 11th goal of the season.Full weekend ⏪: https://t.co/mfsIwtnlB9https://t.co/cmqZzCesOH— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) August 27, 2017 When I saw this during the game I thought it was a mishit but on replay I do think he did it on purpose. Good way to head into USMNT camp.
Start Dempsey with Altidore at home vs Costa Rica Friday. Start Wood with Altidore at Honduras on Tuesday.
