    While this is obviously great news in many ways, it also means essentially that the English road to success has come to an end. I guess without the experience at Fulham his chances of getting a scholarship would perhaps be a bit lower, but still... Anyway, good for him. I'm sure he'll do well...

    Considering the AFA does not give athletic scholarships, I imagine this has more to do with the young man's career goals and less to do with what his soccer skill can earn him. He probably could have gone to a different college program or even tried to make it in a foreign academy if he wanted to pursue a future career in the sport.

    It's a rare example of a program that pays its athletes and gives them a full scholarship. Of course, all the academy students get paid to be there, even if they aren't athletes.
